Overview

The Shop Machine Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a 500‑ton press, likely a hydraulic press, to produce metal components according to specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. This position is a Individual Contributor role. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and monitor the 500‑ton press to ensure accurate and efficient production of parts.
  • Study blueprints, layouts, and sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operation, and setup requirements.
  • Load and unload materials, potentially including metal plates or components, into the press.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain product quality.
  • Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure specifications are met.
  • Conduct quality checks and document production results.
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and elevate complex problems as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain accurate production records and other relevant documentation.
  • Frequently lift materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Perform other duties and activities as required.
Local Requirements

Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
