Job summary

SF Metalworks in Colusa, CA, is seeking a Shop Technical Lead. This onsite role leads fabricators and CNC operators, guiding production priorities and quality control. You will read blueprints, interpret CAD data, and coach a skilled team to deliver precise metalwork on time.

You will oversee safety and ISO 9000 quality practices, manage staffing and time-tracking, and partner with Project Management to meet installations. Strong leadership and hands-on expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years in metal fabrication or a related field
• 3+ years in a supervisory/leadership role
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of welding, architectural metal fabrication, decorative metalwork, and metalworking equipment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, CAD files, and 2D/3D technical drawings
• Experience leading and developing a production team in a hands-on environment
• Experience implementing and enforcing safety procedures
• Experience with ISO 9000-type Quality Assurance program

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support fabricators, welders, CNC operators, and production staff
• Provide on-floor coaching and guidance
• Assign team members to projects based on production priorities
• Conduct regular check-ins and identify training opportunities
• Lead by example in craftsmanship, organization, safety, and professionalism
• Review plans, shop drawings, and project details to understand build methods
• Track production progress and adjust priorities to keep projects moving
• Maintain an organized shop floor and up-to-date production assignments
• Coordinate with Project Management and Installation teams to support deliveries
• Monitor shop capacity, schedules, and labor tracking
• Provide hands-on fabrication support when required
• Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and ensure product quality
• Maintain adherence to OSHA and quality standards
