Position: Shop Foreman / Fabrication Supervisor

Job Type: Full-Time

Marcelli Steel is an established, AISC-Certified structural steel fabrication company located in Brookfield, CT, specializing in structural steel and miscellaneous metals for commercial, industrial, and public construction projects.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Shop Foreman to oversee daily operations, manage personnel, coordinate production, and maintain quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate is a dependable, organized leader who can work independently, solve problems, and keep projects on schedule while communicating effectively with management.

Previous foreman or supervisory experience and/or structural steel fabrication experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shop operations, personnel, production schedules, material receiving, and equipment maintenance.
• Supervise, train, and direct fabrication personnel, assigning work based on skill level, project requirements, and production priorities.
• Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, specifications, and fabrication requirements; assist with layout, fitting, and welding as needed.
• Coordinate shop workflow to maximize productivity, maintain quality, and meet project deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Plan, AISC certification requirements, and applicable welding standards.
• Maintain material traceability, review Material Test Reports (MTRs) and Bills of Lading (BOLs), and ensure required quality control documentation is accurate and complete.
• Inspect fabricated materials and welds for accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with project specifications; identify, document, and address nonconforming work.
• Oversee proper operation, preventative maintenance, and documentation of shop equipment.
• Train and evaluate shop personnel, maintain required training records, and provide performance feedback to management.
• Monitor material inventory and consumables, promptly communicating shortages or purchasing needs to management.
• Support annual AISC audits and participate in the continuous improvement of shop procedures, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Enforce workplace safety requirements and maintain a clean, organized, and productive shop environment.
• Communicate regularly with ownership and management regarding production progress, scheduling, personnel, and operational concerns.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory, lead fabricator, or shop foreman experience, or equivalent demonstrated leadership experience.
• Ability to independently read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Strong working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, welding techniques, and shop equipment.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1 welding requirements and applicable workplace safety regulations.
• Proven ability to supervise employees, prioritize work, and maintain production schedules.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to identify fabrication and quality issues and implement effective solutions.
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to quality workmanship, accountability, and workplace safety.
• Familiarity with AISC quality management requirements, material traceability, and fabrication documentation.
• Experience with both structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrication, including stairs, railings, and other custom steel components.
• Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other fabrication equipment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
