Job description

Job Id:336

# of Openings:1

Location: Terre Haute, IN
Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Overtime: Available, including occasional weekend opportunities
Travel: Approximately monthly travel to Ghent, KY; overnight travel is not normally required

Take Ownership of a Fleet. Keep Our Equipment Working.

We are looking for an experienced Shop Foreman / Lead Fleet Technician to take ownership of our Terre Haute-area fleet maintenance operation.

This is a hands-on, hourly leadership position—not a desk job. You will be the primary maintenance technician for the Terre Haute location, responsible for keeping our fleet safe, reliable, compliant and ready for work.

Our equipment includes vacuum trucks, pumps, high-pressure water blasters and pickup trucks. You'll work primarily out of our Terre Haute shop, with occasional field service at plant locations and approximately monthly travel to our Ghent, Kentucky operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced diesel technician who enjoys diagnosing problems, solving them correctly and having the independence to run a maintenance operation.

What You'll Do
Fleet Maintenance & Repair
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair diesel-powered trucks and specialized equipment.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and electronic diagnostics.
  • Repair engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, hydraulic systems, pumps and related components.
  • Perform major repairs and component replacements as needed.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs when necessary.
Preventive Maintenance & Fleet Reliability
  • Manage and maintain the preventive maintenance schedule for the Terre Haute-area fleet.
  • Perform scheduled PM services, inspections, oil sampling and system testing.
  • Identify potential problems before they become costly breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Help establish maintenance priorities based on equipment condition and operational needs.
  • Use our electronic fleet monitoring system to monitor equipment condition, maintenance needs and service requirements.
  • Review and maintain electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs), identify reported defects or issues, and ensure necessary repairs or follow-up are completed.
DOT & Safety Compliance
  • Perform and/or coordinate DOT inspections and required maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in a safe and compliant condition.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and maintenance documentation.
  • Follow company safety procedures and promote safe work practices.
Inventory & Shop Operations
  • Maintain parts, supplies and maintenance inventory.
  • Identify parts and materials needed for repairs and order or request them as appropriate.
  • Keep the shop, tools and service equipment organized and ready for use.
  • Maintain the company's mobile service capabilities.
  • Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend improvements.

This is a one-person maintenance operation, so you'll have significant responsibility and autonomy. You will work closely with the Area Manager to prioritize repairs, schedule maintenance and keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.

You won't have a crew of mechanics reporting to you, but you will serve as the technical lead and primary point of responsibility for fleet maintenance at the location.

What We're Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on diesel, heavy‑duty truck or heavy‑equipment maintenance experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to diagnose problems using both electronic diagnostic equipment and traditional mechanical troubleshooting methods.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing repair and maintenance needs.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or associate degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL is preferred but not required. We are willing to consider candidates who are willing to obtain a CDL.
  • Ability to travel to plant locations and the Ghent, KY operation as needed.
  • Ability to participate in occasional on‑call response during outages.
Experience That Will Help You Succeed

Experience with any of the following is valuable:

  • Heavy‑duty trucks
  • Pumps and pumping systems
  • High‑pressure water equipment
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Construction or agricultural equipment
  • Fleet maintenance
  • Mobile/field service

You do not have to have experience with our exact equipment. Strong diesel and heavy‑equipment diagnostic skills are more important.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

If you're an experienced mechanic who wants to be the person responsible for keeping a fleet running, this position gives you that opportunity.

  • Primarily Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • Approximately monthly travel to Ghent, KY
  • Overnight travel normally not required
  • Hands‑on work with a variety of specialized equipment
  • Significant independence and ownership
  • Company shop tools are available
  • Opportunity to build and improve the preventive maintenance program
  • Competitive hourly compensation based on experience

If you're a problem solver who takes pride in keeping equipment safe, reliable and working, we'd like to talk with you.
