Job summary

The Safety Surveyor at Boston Ship Repair supports the company safety program by conducting workplace inspections, identifying hazards, and monitoring compliance with safety procedures aboard ships and in the shipyard. The role may perform Shipyard Competent Person duties when properly trained and designated by the company.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, OSHA shipyard safety knowledge, and strong communication and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's degree preferred in safety-related field.
• OSHA shipyard safety knowledge preferred.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred or ability to obtain.
• Shipyard Competent Person training/qualification required for assigned duties.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work any shift, including overtime and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine safety inspections in shipyard and on vessels.
• Identify unsafe conditions and communicate corrective actions.
• Support corrective and preventive actions to reduce hazards.
• Monitor compliance with safety policies and OSHA requirements.
• Assist with investigations of incidents and near-misses.
• Conduct safety orientations and training as needed.
• Support confined-space entry, hot work, and PPE requirements.
• Use atmospheric testing equipment when trained and authorized.
• Maintain safety and testing records and participate in drills.
• Perform other safety-related shipyard duties as assigned.
