Job summary

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Riggers to support shipyard operations at a Norfolk Naval location. Riggers will safely move, handle, and position ship components, heavy machinery, and equipment using cranes, forklifts, and rigging gear.

Load requirements and lift points will be calculated for each operation. Candidates must meet the basic qualifications, including the ability to pass respirator and agility tests, work extreme heights, and report to the Norfolk Naval location.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in rigging or shipyard operations.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to work at extreme heights and in confined spaces.
• Must be able to take and pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to pass the required Physical Agility Test.
• Must be able to work assigned shifts based on production needs.
• Must be able to report to the required Norfolk Naval location.
• Must be able to complete the DBIDS application process based on client requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate or work with shipyard cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
• Support tugboat operations for movement of ships between docks and piers.
• Rig, lift, move, and position ship components and equipment.
• Calculate weight and center of gravity of loads.
• Determine lift point capacity and angles for handling gear.
• Select appropriate rigging for lifting and material handling.
• Erect, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding.
• Assist in handling, maintenance, and issuing of tools used in shipbuilding.
• Install and maintain shipboard ventilation equipment.
