Job summary

Chipton-Ross is seeking 100 Riggers for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA. Riggers provide the kinetic energy of the shipbuilding business, operating cranes and forklifts to move heavy components, and ensure safe handling in a shipyard environment.

Qualified candidates have 2–5 years of heavy rigging experience, can work at extreme heights or in confined spaces, and must pass a respirator fit test and a Physical Agility Test. 5/40 shifts, all shifts TBD.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years' experience in heavy rigging.
• Able to work onboard ship with heavy lifting, climbing, bending, and confined spaces.
• Must pass respirator fit test.
• Must pass Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes and forklifts across the shipyard.
• Rig loads from cranes to various points inside structures.
• Install, maintain, and dismantle scaffolding as needed.
• Handle ship components from pipes and valves to heavy machinery.
• Calculate weight and center of gravity to select proper lift gear.
