Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, CA seeks a Painter (Repair) to clean, prep, and paint ship surfaces. You will mix materials per Product Data Sheet, mask areas, and apply coatings both interior and exterior on ships and facilities.

This role requires attention to safety, color discernment, and the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces. Minimum experience includes 1–3 years brushing or spraying, with SSPC C-12 certification preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years painting experience with brushes or spray applications.
• Must hold SSPC C-12 Certification or be eligible.
• Knowledge of surface preparation and paint mixing per data sheets.
• Ability to read Product Data Sheets and identify coating needs.
• Ability to operate high reach equipment and work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Must observe safety instructions and read warning signals.

Responsibilities

• Set up tools and equipment for surface preparation.
• Prepare surfaces to be painted and mask areas as needed.
• Set up spray painting equipment and apply coatings.
• Mix paints according to PDS and apply coatings.
• Perform hand or spray painting and inspect for touch-ups.
• Keep work areas clean during and after tasks.
• Operate high reach equipment for difficult surfaces.
• Remove debris and perform general cleaning.
• Perform other tasks related to the trade.
