Job summary

GMD Shipyard Corp. in New York seeks an experienced electrician to lead shipyard industrial electrical projects and production electrical work.

You will install, maintain, repair and replace marine electrical systems (AC/DC) and related electronics, study drawings, and ensure work complies with NEC and OSHA standards. Night and weekend shifts are required; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical training in electrical systems.
  • Three to five years of electrical experience in marine or industrial settings.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Experience with electrical maintenance and repair on marine vessels is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

The ideal candidate will perform shipyard industrial electrical projects along with shipyard production electrical projects. Job requirements include:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of marine electrical (AC/DC) and electronic systems for production and facility projects.
  • Take appropriate corrective and proactive measures to maintain equipment availability.
  • Provide reliable service of electrical systems that will allow the shipyard to meet availability targets.
  • Follow environmental and safety regulations and act in compliance with US laws.
  • Prepare and/or study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, and facility maps to ensure installation and operations conform to NEC and OSHA standards and shipyard requirements.
  • Confer with supervisory representatives to discuss existing or potential electrical projects.

Experience with providing electrical maintenance and repair to marine vessels and/or industrial high voltage electrical experience a plus. The ability to work nights and weekends required. Shipyard or military experience a plus. College associate degree or technical training and three to five years of electrical experience required; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
