Job summary

RT London, a domestic furniture manufacturer in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks a hands-on Shipping Lead to run daily shipping, coordinate staff, and ensure accurate, safe product movement. This role supervises forklift operation, LTL/Ups shipments, and inventory control while promoting a safe, efficient warehouse environment.

Responsibilities include directing daily workflow, training the team, and maintaining records; overtime may be required on Fridays and Saturdays.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and a clean record.
  • Experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or material handling.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain forklift certification.
  • Prior lead or team leadership is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with computers and warehouse software/tools.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily shipping activities to keep orders on schedule.
  • Provide direction, support, and training to shipping/warehouse staff.
  • Coordinate staging and preparation of finished products for shipment.
  • Verify outgoing products against orders, bills of lading, and packing lists.
  • Count, identify, and document products for shipment.
  • Prepare and package products for LTL and UPS shipments.
  • Use scanning equipment to transfer products between locations.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and inventory records.
  • Organize finished goods and materials in designated areas.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, yard trucks, and related equipment.
  • Stage 53-foot trailers and coordinate loading of outgoing orders.
  • Ensure products are secured and organized for transport.
  • Inspect warehouse/shipping equipment and report maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe shipping environment and follow procedures.
  • Communicate shipping issues and delays to Shipping Supervisor.

RT London is a domestic furniture manufacturer serving the needs of higher education, government contracts, human services, and related markets. We focus on innovative design and outstanding durability. Design, engineering, and manufacturing are all done in-house in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are looking for a hands-on, team-focused Shipping Lead to help keep our warehouse and shipping operations running safely, accurately, and efficiently.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, staying organized, and helping a team get the job done. The Shipping Lead will coordinate daily workflow, support shipping and warehouse associates, and ensure materials and finished products are received, stored, staged, documented, and shipped correctly.

This position's schedule is 1st shift, Monday – Thursday 6:00am-4:00pm. Production runs overtime on Fridays and Saturdays as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily shipping activities and priorities to keep orders moving efficiently and on schedule
  • Provide day-to-day direction, support, and training to shipping and warehouse associates
  • Coordinate the staging and preparation of finished products for shipment
  • Verify outgoing products against customer orders, bills of lading, packing lists, and other shipping documentation
  • Accurately count, identify, and document products being prepared for shipment
  • Prepare and package products for and process LTL and UPS shipments
  • Use scanning equipment to accurately transfer products between warehouse locations and process outgoing shipments
  • Maintain accurate shipping and inventory records
  • Organize and maintain finished products and materials in designated warehouse and staging areas
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, yard trucks, and other material-handling equipment
  • Stage 53-foot trailers in the yard and coordinate the loading of outgoing orders
  • Ensure products are properly secured and organized for transportation
  • Inspect warehouse and shipping equipment and work areas and report repair or maintenance needs
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safety-conscious shipping environment
  • Reinforce established safety, quality, and operating procedures with the shipping team
  • Assist with product deliveries as needed
  • Communicate shipping issues, delays, discrepancies, and other operational concerns to the Shipping Supervisor
Qualifications & Skills
  • Valid Driver's License with clean record required
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or material handling
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification
  • Previous lead or team leadership experience is preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable working with computers and Microsoft Office
  • Previous exposure to or have the ability to learn and use warehouse scanning and inventory systems
  • Knowledge of LTL and UPS shipping processes
  • Ability to safely operate a pallet jack and other material-handling equipment
  • Ability to stage 53-foot trailers using a yard truck
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • This position works in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to dust, finishing chemicals and moving equipment
  • Continuous standing and walking throughout the 10-hour shift, with frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and kneeling
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing approximately 50–75 lbs. and team lift assist up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift
  • Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and yard truck
