Job summary

Tension Envelope Corporation in Des Moines, IA is hiring a Shipping & Receiving Worker to process orders, ship products, unload materials and maintain the staging area. All training will be provided.

Starting pay is $20.24 per hour with a raise after 12 months, and compensation is union-regulated. Duties include checking freight, packing, labeling, loading trucks, writing orders, preparing bills of lading, and coordinating with outside carriers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination.

Responsibilities

• Check freight for damage and verify against bill of lading.
• Process shipments: count, pack, weigh, label materials.
• Load trucks and maintain staging area.
• Prepare bills of lading and related forms.
• Operate forklift, elevator and stretch wrap equipment.
• Prepare shipping documents for urgent shipments.
• Coordinate pickups and deliveries with carriers.
• Perform related duties as required.

The Shipping & Receiving Worker processes orders and ships products to customers; unloads all materials and places such in the building.. All training will be provided.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Checks freight for damage; counts freight to match with bill of lading.
• Performs shipment processing, including counting, packaging, weighing and labeling of materials.
• Load the trucks.
• Writes orders and maintains staging area.
• Prepares bill of ladings and other miscellaneous forms, including those for wastepaper trucks.
• Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including forklift, elevator and stretch wrapper.
• Prepares shipping documentation (bill of lading, packing slips, etc.) on any urgent last-minute shipments.
• Coordinates pickup and deliveries with outside carriers.
• Perform related work as required.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Knoweldge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively with groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate and percentage and to interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to read ruler.
• Knowledge of the metric system is a plus.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
