Job summary

America's Thrift Stores is seeking a dependable Distribution Shipping/Receiving Team Member to join our Distribution Center team in Birmingham, AL. You will help receiving, sorting, organizing, and preparing merchandise for shipment, thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while upholding safety and organization.

The role offers a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with no regular nights or weekends, and opportunities to contribute to efficient operations, inventory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Experience in warehouse, distribution, shipping/receiving preferred.
• Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklift a plus).
• Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform demanding tasks.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload merchandise from trucks and tractors safely and efficiently.
• Inspect, verify, and document incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and quality.
• Sort, organize, package, and prepare merchandise for distribution.
• Label and process outgoing shipments according to procedures.
• Assist with coordinating shipments to ensure timely deliveries.
• Organize and maintain merchandise in the Distribution Center.
• Assist with inventory counts and stock replenishment.
• Operate warehouse equipment safely and report maintenance or safety concerns.

This position plays an important role in keeping our distribution operations running smoothly by receiving, sorting, organizing, and preparing merchandise for shipment. Key Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving

• Load and unload merchandise from trucks and trailers safely and efficiently.

• Inspect, verify, and document incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and quality.

• Sort, organize, package, and prepare merchandise for distribution.

• Label and process outgoing shipments according to established procedures.

• Assist with coordinating shipments to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

Warehouse Operations & Inventory

• Organize and maintain merchandise throughout the Distribution Center.

• Assist with inventory counts, stock rotation, and replenishment.

• Identify, sort, and consolidate merchandise into designated categories.

• Operate baling equipment and prepare materials for processing or shipment.

• Safely operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, as trained and authorized.

• Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.

Teamwork & Safety

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and operational guidelines.

• Work collaboratively with team members and leadership to meet daily production goals.

• Adapt to changing priorities and assist in other areas of the Distribution Center as needed.

• Communicate inventory discrepancies, operational concerns, and progress to management.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent work experience considered.

• Previous warehouse, distribution, shipping/receiving, or material-handling experience preferred.

• Experience operating warehouse equipment is a plus; forklift certification preferred but not required.

• Ability to work efficiently in a physically active, fast-paced environment.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.

• Basic computer skills and familiarity with shipping or inventory systems preferred.

• Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently or as part of a team.

• Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This is a physically active position requiring regular movement, lifting, and material handling throughout the workday.

Physical Demands

• Frequently: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push and pull up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, and reach at or above waist level.

• Frequently: Walk on concrete or tile surfaces, handle merchandise, and perform repetitive physical tasks.

• Continuously: Stand on concrete or tile surfaces, communicate, observe surroundings, and respond to workplace instructions.

• As Required: Climb to heights of up to 14 feet while following established safety procedures.

Work Environment

• Work is primarily performed inside a Distribution Center with partially controlled temperatures.

• Some responsibilities may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions and varying temperatures.

• Employees must follow all established workplace safety procedures and equipment guidelines.

Work Schedule

Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–4:00 PM

This position offers a consistent weekday schedule with no regularly scheduled evening or weekend shifts. Occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on operational needs.
