Job summary

America's Thrift Stores seeks a Dock Supervisor to lead the shipping and receiving team in our Tennessee locations. You will audit operations, ensure accurate stock, and enforce safety and quality standards in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

You will coach staff, plan schedules, coordinate with vendors, and support store leadership with logistics and process improvements to help move goods efficiently while upholding company policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years supervising shipping/receiving or warehouse teams.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic math and computer literacy required.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Background check, MVR and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inventory tracking and reconcile discrepancies.

Position Title: Dock Supervisor

Reports To: Retail Manager

Department:Supervisors

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Dock Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the shipping and receiving team, ensuring the efficient movement of goods in and out of the store. This includes monitoring inventory, managing deliveries, and upholding company standards for accuracy and efficiency. The supervisor will take a hands‑on approach in auditing, quality control, and training to optimize performance. They will set an example for teamwork, safety, and productivity while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct and supervise the work of shipping and receiving team members.
• Oversee inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely and accurate handling.
• Maintain inventory tracking systems to record deliveries, stock levels, and discrepancies.
• Ensure proper documentation and labeling of shipments for accuracy and compliance.
• Monitor and enforce safety procedures related to material handling and equipment use.
• Analyze daily stock levels and address shortages or overages as needed.
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training team members.
• Create and maintain team schedules based on operational needs.
• Provide coaching and feedback to improve performance and efficiency.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of the receiving and storage areas.
• Assist with loss prevention efforts by following security protocols and ensuring compliance with company policies.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to streamline shipping and receiving processes.
• Assist donors per company standards.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
• Support store leadership in implementing sales and marketing programs when needed.

• Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least two years of experience as a supervisor, team lead, or key holder in a shipping, receiving, logistics, or warehouse environment.
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Basic mathematical and computer skills.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts) preferred.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to assess and coach team performance.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

• Successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on concrete, tile, and other hard surfaces throughout the workday.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to frequently push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach at waist level and overhead while handling merchandise and shipments.
• Ability to climb ladders or approved equipment to access heights of up to 14 feet while maintaining balance and following safety procedures.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements, including grasping, handling, sorting, and moving merchandise.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment, as trained and authorized.
• Ability to visually inspect merchandise, inventory, labels, and shipping documentation for accuracy and quality.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and donors in an active warehouse and retail environment.
• Ability to work in indoor environments with varying temperatures and outdoor conditions, including exposure to changing weather.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as business needs require.
