Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months in shipping, receiving and warehouse operations preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems and MS Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Forklift certification within 2 weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all shipping and receiving with accurate records.
  • Determine shipment methods using routes and rates.
  • Affix shipping labels identifying information on cartons or pallets.
  • Select and assemble proper shipping containers.
  • Unpack shipments, record shortages/overages, and rectify issues.
  • Route items to internal departments and maintain cycle counts.
  • Interact with transport personnel (UPS, FEDEX, DHL, etc.).
  • Maintain housekeeping and ensure proper storage of inventory.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks as needed.
  • Observe safety rules and perform other duties as assigned.

Shipping/Receiving Specialist I

Full Time Madison, WI, US

Salary Range: $19.00 To $22.00 Annually

MISSION

Receives incoming materials and equipment; verifies count, accuracy and condition, and prepares material for order. Pulls stock frominventory, prepares for and delivers warehouse merchandise to internal departments. Maintains accurate records and filing systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shipping/Receiving duties:

  • Handles all aspects of shipping and receiving while keeping accurate records.
  • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates.
  • Affixes shipping labels on cartons or pallets identifying shipping information, using proper equipment.
  • Selects and assembles proper shipping containers using proper shipping fillers.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages/overages and rectifies all situations.
  • Routes items appropriately to internal departments.
  • Maintains cycle counts.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Sales personnel to ensure timely shipment and receipt of products.
  • Interact with transport personnel such as UPS, FEDEX, DHL and other common carriers.
  • Maintain housekeeping in work area and warehouses. Ensure inventory is properly stored, aisles kept free of obstructions and trash is picked up and properly disposed.
  • Assist Facilities group with seasonal activities.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks and hand equipment to handle and transport materials or load and unload trucks.
  • Upkeep of all warehouses to include shelf labeling, tracking and general cleanliness.
  • Upkeep of all warehouse aisles-nothing on the floor, nothing hanging over the shelving.
  • Observe required safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • High School Graduate (or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 6 months in shipping, receiving and warehouse operations preferred.

SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE

  • Computer operation, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with basic warehouse and shipping machines and tools.

PHYSICAL ABILITY

  • Ability to liftup-to75 lbs.

OTHER

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to be on your feet all day.
  • Ability to work well with others on a team.
  • Ability to acquire new skills and to accommodate change in the workplace.
  • Become forklift certified within 2 weeks of hire.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Experience with foreign shipping procedures preferred.
