Caterpillar Inc. is actively seeking a Shipping & Receiving Manager for our San Diego facility.

The role leads ~25 hourly staff in warehouse and shipping operations, coordinating receipts, put-away, picking and outbound shipments to internal customers; emphasis on safety, quality and timely delivery. The ideal candidate has manufacturing experience, strong communication, and proven process-improvement skills.

Qualifications

• Educational background: High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Experience in manufacturing operations; ability to perform day-to-day operations of a manufacturing plant or facility for products.
• Production training: knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for delivering formal and informal training on safe and efficient operation of production machinery.
• Effective communication: ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise roughly 25 hourly employees in warehouse and shipping operations.
• Oversee material receipt, put-away, picking and delivery to PSO, TMP and Customer Services.
• Coordinate carrier/parcel pickups and EOCP requests; ensure accurate shipments.
• Apply Lean and Six Sigma methods to improve safety, quality and on-time delivery.

The role includes but not limited to the effective support and leadership of approximately 25 hourly employees engaged in the processes of material receipt, put-away, picking and delivery of material to the PSO, TMP and Customer Services Organization, carrier/parcel pickups, weekday EOCP requests and material and finished goods shipments through collaboration with the logistics team. The position plays a pivotal role in the identification and removal of obstacle impeding the warehouse and shipping team's ability to safely deliver/ship the right part, at the right time, in the right quantity to the right location.The incumbent exercises strong decision-making skills in the allocation of resources, identification of shifting priorities, execution of urgent business needs, use of continuous improvement tools including Lean Thinking and 6 Sigma, and knowledge of collective bargaining agreement to achieve operational excellence.
