Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in San Diego seeks an Engine Mechanic to assemble, disassemble and overhaul engines and driven equipment. You will measure parts using calipers and CMM, follow turbine assembly standards, and work from schematics, Creo, blueprints and photographs.

A strong background in power tools and turbine maintenance is required. Preferred are 3–5 years of turbine equipment experience, nozzle manufacturing familiarity, and CMM inspection know-how.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience using power tools for troubleshooting, repair and installation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering schematics and blueprints.
  • Experience using general repair tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical experience on turbine equipment.
  • Familiar with nozzle manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, tear down, reassemble, and rework nozzle assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Disassemble, rebuild, and rework turbine nozzle/Solar product lines.
  • Perform assemblies and subassemblies to Solar standards.
  • Airflow nozzle products and assemblies using Flow System equipment.
  • Perform CMM inspection of nozzle sub-assemblies.
  • Measure with calipers, height gauges, dial indicators and VDG.

Build complete engines and driven equipment prior to and after testing. Perform overhaul of engines, packages, and assemblies. Perform balancing of rotating parts and assemblies.**What You Will Do:*** Assemble, tear down, reassemble, and rework complete nozzle assemblies, sub-assemblies, and accessory units* Utilizing a working knowledge of turbomachinery products and working from electronic operational instruction sheets, blueprints, written and/or oral instructions, Creo model sketches and photographs* Disassemble, rebuild, and rework all nozzle Solar product lines and stages* Perform assemblies, and subassemblies to Solar standards* Airflow nozzle products and assemblies with the use of Flow System equipment* Perform CMM inspection of nozzle sub-assemblies* Perform measurement with the use of calipers, height gages, dial indicators and VDG (volume displacement gages)* Conduct visual quality checks of nozzle segments and assemblies**What You Have:*** High School diploma, GED or equivalent* Minimum 1 year of experience using power tools and other equipment to perform troubleshooting, repair, and installation.* Understanding of engineering schematics and blueprints* Experience using general repair tools and equipment* Ability to work overtime as needed* Willingness to work any shift**Preferred Qualifications:*** 3-5 years of mechanical experience on Turbine equipment, installation, repair, and maintenance* Familiar with nozzle manufacturing process* CMM inspection experience* Airflow test experience* Experience in to use measurement devices such as: calipers, height gages, dial indicators and VDG (volume displacement gages)***Visa Sponsorship is not available for this position.
