Job description

Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not in order of priority):

• Count, weigh, or measure items in incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other pertinent records.
• Determine the method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
• Affix shipping labels on packed cartons, or stencil identifying shipping information on cartons using stenciling equipment.
• Post weights and shipping charges, and affix postage.
• Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
• Ensure that outgoing shipments meet specification.
• Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
• Receive damaged or defective goods returned to establishment and be designated as such.
• Receive unsold products returned by outside parts salespersons or delivery driver.
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
• Maintain regular on-site attendance.

Work Environment:

• Ability to travel to different locations, communicate with a wide variety of individuals, and handle difficult situations as they arise.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

• Must be able to understand quality standards, methods and reporting as required to understand and complete labor or time sheets accurately
• Able to analyze information gathered in order to identify potential problems or discrepancies.

Education, Skills & Knowledge Required:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to multi-task.
