Job summary

6 Degrees Search is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Associate in Harlan, Iowa to verify outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment. The role requires 1–2 years of hands-on shipping and receiving experience; forklift and overhead crane training are provided. Knowledge of SDS/HazCom shipping regulations is important.

Responsibilities include labeling, packing, loading shipments, clerical data entry, and ensuring shipments meet company specifications and timelines.

Qualifications

1-2 years of hands-on shipping and receiving experience.
Forklift experience a plus, will train.
Overhead crane experience a plus, will train.
Experience with measurement devices a must.
Crating or carpentry experience a plus, will train.
Export paperwork experience a plus.
Understanding SDS/Hazcom shipping regulations.

Responsibilities

Compares items against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Determines the method of shipment.
Affixes shipping labels on cartons or crates.
Assembles containers and inserts items for shipment.
Stamps or glues shipping information on containers.
Posts weights and shipping charges; applies postage.
Inspects shipments for accuracy and condition.
Delivers incoming goods to respective departments.

Salary: $18-22/hour

Job Summary of the Shipping & Receiving Associate:

The Shipping & Receiving Associate will verify and keeps records on outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities of the Shipping & Receiving Associate:

Compares identifying information and counts weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Determines the method of shipment.
Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
Insert items into containers.
Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape.
Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
Maintains the inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
Operates tier lift truck or uses hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules.
Inspect shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
Counts, weighs, measures, or examines packaging and contents for conformance to company specifications.
Compares items packed with customer's orders and other identifying data.
Performs clerical tasks such as computer data entry, typing correspondence, and keeping files.
Delivers incoming goods to respective departments.
