Responsibilities

  • Organize, stage, and transport materials in a fast-paced outdoor/warehouse environment.
  • Verify accuracy of shipments and documents through attention to detail.
  • Safely load, move, and handle materials and finished goods.
  • Pursue forklift/stock chaser certification through Harper Industries.
  • Safely operate equipment and tools, including saws and material handling equipment.
  • Use company software for order processing and task completion.
  • Assist with inventory processes including stocking and cycle counts.
  • Identify defects or quality issues and communicate them appropriately.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in indoor and outdoor work areas.
  • Prioritize tasks and adapt in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and drivers.

Position Title: Shipping Lot Material Handler

Department: Shipping
Reports to: Shipping Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Shipping Lot Material Handler is responsible for organizing, staging, and transporting finished goods and materials within the outdoor lot and shipping areas to ensure accurate and timely shipment to customers. This role supports shipping, inventory, and material handling processes while maintaining quality standards, workplace safety, and effective communication across departments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ability to organize, stage, and transport materials in a fast-paced outdoor and warehouse environment
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions and verify accuracy of shipments
  • Ability to safely load, move, and handle materials and finished goods
  • Willingness and ability to become forklift/stock chaser certified through Harper Industries
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and tools, including saws and material handling equipment
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to use company software for order processing and task completion
  • Ability to assist with inventory processes including stocking and cycle counts
  • Ability to identify defects or quality issues and communicate them appropriately
  • Ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in indoor and outdoor work areas
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt in a time-sensitive environment
  • Strong communication, reliability, and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs with assistance (team lift or mechanical aid)
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting throughout the shift
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, and climbing
  • Ability to use hands for handling, grasping, and manipulating materials and tools
  • Must have visual ability to read job orders, identify part numbers, and inspect for quality
  • Must have adequate hearing to maintain awareness of surroundings, including equipment and vehicle traffic
Work Environment
  • Frequent outdoor work with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold)
  • Exposure to varying temperatures depending on work area
  • Fast-paced outdoor lot and warehouse environment
  • Frequent interaction with team members, drivers, outside personnel and equipment traffic.
  • Requires clear and effective communication in person and, when needed, via phone
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment in accordance with company safety policies, including company-provided safety glasses and employee-provided steel-toed footwear; additional PPE may be required based on job duties
