Job summary

Openwork's Houston branch is seeking a Shipping Lead for the day shift to supervise outbound logistics, assign loading tasks, and ensure on-time delivery.

In this role you will oversee loading, verify BOL, lead safety huddles, train new staff, and keep the ERP/WMS up to date while coordinating yard traffic and equipment inspections.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shipping workflows and assign tasks to forklift operators, loaders, and packers to meet delivery timelines.
• Ensure loading protocols for flatbed trailers, enclosed trucks, and container shipments with proper weight distribution and safety standards.
• Perform final quality audits on outgoing orders; verify item counts, heat numbers, pipe specifications, and bill of lading documentation before drivers exit the yard.
• Lead pre-shift safety huddles, enforce OSHA guidelines and PPE compliance, and assist in training new shipping personnel on proper material handling.
• Update warehouse management systems (WMS) in real time to reflect shipped inventory, stage staging-bay locations, and process completed shipments.
• Direct traffic flow in the shipping staging areas and ensure forklifts, side-loaders, and overhead equipment are inspected and operated safely.

Shipping Lead - Day Shift

Location: Houston, TX 77051

Schedule: 7:00am-5:00pm

Pay: $20-$23/hour

The Houston branch of Openwork has partnered with a growing Pipe, Valve & Flange company in Houston to add a Shipping Lead to their team!

What You\'ll Be Doing:

• Outbound Logistics Supervision: Oversee daily shipping workflows; assign pick lists and loading tasks to forklift operators, loaders, and packers to meet delivery timelines.


• Loading & Securement Oversight: Ensure proper loading protocols for flatbed trailers, enclosed trucks, and container shipments, verifying weight distribution and dunnage/strapping safety standards for long-length steel pipe (20 ft to 40 ft joints).


• Order Verification & Documentation: Perform final quality audits on outgoing orders; verify item counts, heat numbers, pipe specifications, and bill of lading (BOL) documentation before drivers exit the yard.


• Team Leadership & Safety: Lead pre-shift safety huddles, enforce OSHA guidelines and PPE compliance, and assist in training new shipping personnel on proper material handling.


• Inventory & ERP System Entry: Update warehouse management systems (WMS) in real time to reflect shipped inventory, stage staging-bay locations, and process completed shipments.


• Equipment & Yard Coordination: Direct traffic flow in the shipping staging areas and ensure forklifts, side-loaders, and overhead equipment are inspected and operated safely.

What We\'re Looking For:

PPE Required:

• Hardhat; Type 1 Class E, Orange (high visibility).


• Safety Glasses - ANSI z87+, Clear.

• Cut resistant gloves LVL 4+.


• Steel Toed Boots (at least 5\" ankle coverage).
