Responsibilities

  • Oversee shipping/receiving operations and ensure DOT compliance.
  • Load/unload trailers with lift trucks and stage shipments accurately.
  • Maintain accurate shipping documents, COAs, and packing lists in SAP.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Customer Service to meet delivery requirements.
  • Ensure safety, housekeeping, and incident investigations per OSHA/EPA standards.
  • Back up Production Scheduler as needed.

**Summary**The Shipping Lead oversees the department’s objectives and ensures the methods and execution of orders meets the internal standards and expectations of our customers. This person has demonstrated expertise in all the department roles and can fully support the training and development of the team members, in addition, communicate the department’s needs effectively. This role must handle all functions of the Shipping and Receiving department in the most efficient manner and per DOT regulations. This includes physically loading/unloading trailers with a lift truck as well as transactional procedures in our SAP system. The Shipping Lead must be competent to back up the Production Scheduler on an as needed basis.**Essential Functions**SafetyOperate all mobile equipment in a safe manner. (Lift truck & Scissor lift)Participate in HABITS and Safety Challenge program. Lead team towards 100% team participation. Update Habits board daily.Assist in the improvement of safety.Complete incident investigations for first aid cases and near miss incidents. Communicate with Management team.Must be proficient in understanding and knowledge of safety regulations.Wear daily PPE and job specific PPE as needed. Inspect PPE and communicate additional PPE needs and opportunities.Never perform a job if there is an unsafe condition.Identify and correct process hazards. Communicate hazard if you cannot correct it immediately.Ensures a high level of housekeeping standards are met daily and establishes department strategy to always be tour-ready.Compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal audit standards.******Quality**Understands process and procedures to ensure quality at each step of the shipping process.Ensures team members understand and follow procedures to proactively avoid quality nonconformance issues.Halts team progress when quality risks are present and engages management support.Strive for a reduction in customer complaints and work to eliminate them in your plant.**Shipping**Locate and stage next day’s shipments near the shipping docks. Audits to ensure proper product, batch number, packaging, labeling, documents (COA, etc.) and cleanliness before final shipment in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.Assist in any key customer shipments that require leadership review prior to shipping and ensure packaging quality and accuracy of the shipment.Must possess expert skills in the operation of a lift-truck. Example: Ability to load delicate bag goods and cartons into trailers without breakage while utilizing space to obtain a safe, secure load. Ability to operate both stand-up and seated lift trucks is required.Responsible for the department’s documents being completed accurately per procedures. Including but not limited to Shipping & Staging checklist, warehouse transfer sheets, production reports sheets.Responsible for organization of the material storage in the facility for optimum flow. This includes timely and accurate receipt, transactions, barcoding process, KANBAN organization, and FIFO management as set forth by the company.Must have the attribute of fluent reading and writing skills while possessing a unique talent towards attention to details. Example: Sending customers the exact material, batch number, package type and quantity ordered with all internal and commercial paperwork filled out correctly in accordance with DOT, EPA, and other government regulations.Must possess a professional relationship while efficiently communicating with trucking dispatchers, drivers, customers, and the office and laboratory staff.Responsible for organization and staging of south lot storage areas.Attend DOT training every 3 years on hazardous materials and wastes.Ensure shipping work instructions are updated and the change is properly communicated anytime procedures are revised.Ability to drive continuous improvements with respect to transactional accuracy, load scheduling, and delays in loading/unloadingCollaboration with Production, Quality, and Customer Service teams to meet delivery requirements.Ensures timely entry and reconciliation of inventory movements in SAP.Maintains and updates required shipping documentation, including hazardous materials manifests, bills of lading, and COAs.**Skills**Attention to detail.Expert use of stand-up and seated lift trucks.Can effectively influence the performance and development of a team.Communicates professionally and respectfully.Demonstrates ability to understand and follow procedures.Be a collaborative and supportive teammate.Proactive planning and organization.Problem solving, decision making, gives direction.Computer aptitude with SAP, Excel, Word, etcWorking knowledge of SAP transactions; BOL generation, goods receipts to ensure inventory accuracy.Time managementContinuous improvement mindset**Education and Experience**High School Diploma or GED 1-3 years of industrial shipping/receiving experience**Supervisory Responsibilities**No supervisory responsibility with this role.**Work Environment**Must have the ability to prepare for and work in any outside weather conditions. For example: hot, cold, rain, snow, etc. Must be able to wear the correct PPE that is always required for the Job. Hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection and steel toe shoes. (Dusk mask, cleaning air supplied helmet and cleaning suit as needed) and a lot of standing.**Physical Requirements**Lift up to 100 pounds, medically qualified to wear respirator if required.Physical: Sitting, carrying, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing, climbing (ladders of various height), maximum lifting of 100 lbs., with frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs.Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles. Perform arithmetic operations quickly, accurately, and possess eye-hand motor coordination.Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situation requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
