Job summary

Sonny's Enterprises, a leading conveyorized car wash equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Shipping Group Leader to supervise all warehouse outbound activities from 7:30am to 4:30pm. You will lead shipping personnel, ensure timely, high-quality picking, packing, and loading, and maintain a safe work environment while supporting continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities include directing workload, scheduling, performance reviews, and training while ensuring compliance with wage and hour

The Shipping Group Leader is responsible for supervising, controlling, and directing all functions for all outgoing products from the warehouse. The Shipping Group Leader leads, manages, and directs all activities of the warehouse shipping personnel, ensuring product picking, loading, and shipping is performed in an efficient manner, to a high degree of quality. The Shipping Group Leader is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, delivering high quality work, supporting continuous improvement activities, and ensure products are delivered to our customers on-time.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving Team Leadership

  • Provides direction and proper motivation to leads and frontline employees to ensure the daily workload is completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Plan and establish work schedules and assignments in support of department goals; make overtime scheduling decisions & hold team accountable to defined work hours.
  • Review records of employee’s company pay policy attendance and hours worked within ADP, time off requests following wage and hour laws.
  • Handle employee complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts.
  • Lead by example, evaluate departmental workload requirements and stay late when needed.
  • Identify staffing needs, interview, hire and train staff and maintain a steady stream of qualified candidates.
  • Manage, develop and monitor the progress of personnel.
  • Identify training requirements and train where needed.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and turn in by due date.
  • Ensure all Receiving processes are properly carried out, with high quality & performance.
  • Identify and rectify safety concerns.
  • Hold regular meetings with department staff.
  • Provide guidance, training and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance on a frequent basis.
  • Other duties as needed.
Process Development, Execution & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate current Standard Procedures for Truck Loading & Small Parts Picking & Packaging, identifying opportunities for Continuous Improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Define Truck-Loading Standards to ensure customers are able to quickly & easily unload trucks upon arrival to Installation Sites – training and hold team accountable for defined standards.
  • Define Standards for Small Parts Picking & Packaging processes – ensure boxes are packaged in a logical sequence to support onloading, check-in, and installation process.
  • Incorporate feedback from our customers into processes, strive to continuously improve shipping, loading, and packaging performance.
  • Supervise loading of trucks and assure that the correct items are put on the truck; perform Quality Control Functions with team before truck are picked up for delivery to the customer.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to quality standards, truck loading standards and work instructions. Hold Team accountable to follow defined process and procedures.
  • Monitor and make improvements where necessary on shipping dept. performance. Review “Free-of-Charge” Orders related to shipping errors (Missing, Damaged) and develop countermeasures & process improvements to continuously reduce non-conformances.
  • Develop proactive strategies to anticipate and mitigate issues and risks with respect to shipping orders accurately and on time.
  • Develop, document and implement shipping work instructions and procedures.
  • Enforce housekeeping standards; Maintain 5S and Visual Factory in areas of responsibility.
  • Implement & Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the Department
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Qualifications
Education and Formal Training:
High School Diploma / GED Required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certifications (CSCP, CPIM, Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, etc.)…desired.
Experience:
5+ years Warehouse/Shipping Leadership Experience
ERP / SAP software preferred.
Experience working with WMS Systems; Scanning / Picking Desired
Management Experience - Employee Reviews, Employee Relations, Training, Hiring, Terminating & Developing.
