Job summary

Pilgrim is seeking a seasoned Shipping Operations Manager to oversee directing shipping operations, manage multiple shifts, and ensure efficient inventory control. You will coordinate with plant functions, supervise area supervisors, and promote safety and quality.

The role emphasizes budgeting, scheduling, and staff development to meet production targets and cost objectives. Experience with warehouse logistics and USDA/FSIS relations is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; higher education preferred.
• 8–10 years of experience in shipping inventory.
• Experience with warehouse management systems, preferably Red Prairie.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with plant management, employees, and USDA/FSIS.
• Degree in operations management or supply chain preferred; multilingualism is a plus.

Job description

This position reports to the DC Superintendent and coordinates activities of employees engaged in preparing, verifying and maintaining records on all shipments, and inventory control. Manages multiple shifts

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directs shipping operations, and personnel to meet established shipping processing and quality control standards, to control budget and costs, and to provide data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products produced.
• Establishes short-term activities directed toward processing continuity and balance such as shift schedules, ensuring requisition of materials, machine loading, grievance resolution, and equipment maintenance.
• Coordinates and integrates with other plant function areas to ensure support in attaining output, productivity, and quality.
• Selects, organizes, trains, and motivates processing labor force to ensure consistent attainment of processing schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels.
• Recommends improvements in processing flow or methods.
• Ensures effective use of operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and to improve product quality.
• Recommends modification of machines and equipment in order to improve processing and quality of products.
• Promotes a safe working environment for our employees.
  Responsible for working relations between USDA and plant personnel.

• Accountable for all operations in assigned area
• Responsible for the direct supervision & training of area supervisors
• Motivate and manage supervisors to ensure highest productivity from employees
• Directly involved in discipline of employees when necessary, ranging from verbal warnings to termination
  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate or GED equivalent (Additional education preferred but not required)
• 4-6 years of management experience
• Multi-Lingual preferred but not required
• Extensive knowledge of warehouse operations, shipping operations, and logistics preferred
• Must have good communication, interpersonal skills and maintain a good working relationship with plant management, plant employees, corporate and USDA/FSIS.
• Must have good decision-making and planning skills.
• Experience working with warehouse management systems,preferably Red Prairie
• Read and analyze production schedules, records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
• Interpret specifications, job order, and company policies/procedures for workers
• Extended walking and standing
• 8-10 years experience in Shipping inventory
• Able to work most Saturdays and some Sundays (50+ hrs./week)
• Highly motivated
• Degree in operations management or supply chain preferred
• Read and analyze work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs
• Plan orders in system/track inventory
• Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies/procedures for workers
