Job summary

Cornerstone Detention Products is seeking a Shipping Clerk to accurately prepare, package, document, and ship manufactured lock products and components from our Montgomery facility. You will coordinate with Production, Quality Control, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure orders ship safely, on schedule, and with proper paperwork.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn shipping/inventory software.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, packing lists, labels, and shipping documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and freight carriers.
  • Ability to lift and move materials as required by the position.
  • Forklift experience is preferred but not required; training may be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Receive completed orders from Production and prepare them for shipment.
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, customer orders, and shipping documentation before products leave the facility.
  • Properly package locks, hardware, and related components to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Prepare shipping labels, packing lists, bills of lading, and other required documentation.
  • Schedule pickups with freight carriers, UPS, FedEx, and other transportation providers.
  • Load and secure shipments according to company and carrier requirements.
  • Verify shipments against customer orders before releasing them to the carrier.
  • Track shipments and communicate delays or delivery issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Process domestic and, when applicable, international shipments according to company procedures.

Job description

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for accurately preparing, packaging, documenting, and shipping manufactured lock products and related components to customers and distribution locations. This position works closely with Production, Quality Control, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure orders are shipped accurately, safely, and on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shipping & Order Fulfillment
  • Receive completed orders from Production and prepare them for shipment.
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, customer orders, and shipping documentation before products leave the facility.
  • Properly package locks, hardware, and related components to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Prepare shipping labels, packing lists, bills of lading, and other required documentation.
  • Schedule pickups with freight carriers, UPS, FedEx, and other transportation providers.
  • Load and secure shipments according to company and carrier requirements.
  • Verify shipments against customer orders before releasing them to the carrier.
  • Track shipments and communicate delays or delivery issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Process domestic and, when applicable, international shipments according to company procedures.
Inventory & Material Handling
  • Maintain accurate records of products entering and leaving the shipping area.
  • Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts as needed.
  • Identify and report discrepancies between physical inventory and system records.
  • Move finished goods and materials using carts, pallet jacks, forklifts, or other approved equipment.
  • Maintain an organized shipping area and ensure finished products are properly identified and stored.
  • Assist with receiving materials and components when needed.
Quality & Accuracy
  • Inspect packaging and finished products for obvious damage or discrepancies before shipment.
  • Confirm that the correct lock models, components, quantities, and customer-specific requirements are included in each shipment.
  • Report damaged, missing, or incorrect products to the Operations Manager or appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow all company procedures related to product traceability and documentation.
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Properly operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material‑handling equipment after receiving required training.
  • Keep the shipping and receiving areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Properly lift, move, and secure heavy boxes, pallets, and materials.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or safety concerns immediately.
Required Qualifications
