Job summary

Farwest is a leading steel service center serving the Western United States. We are seeking a Shipping Clerk to perform tasks related to the shipping of materials and to help coordinate inter‑department logistics on a daily basis.

The role includes scheduling trucks, coordinating inbound and outbound shipments, preparing bills of lading, updating data entry, and supporting process improvements. This full‑time onsite position offers a graveyard shift with competitive wages and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be reliable and punctual and able to work daily.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Schedule company trucks and coordinate inbound carrier schedules.
• Communicate truck arrivals and order prep with warehouse staff.
• Prepare bill of ladings and outbound material loads.
• Assist in training staff and participate in cross-department projects.
• Enter shipment data including dispatch and orders.

Job Type: Full Time, Onsite

Shift: Graveyard Shift

Wage: $21.00 to $25.000

Purpose of This Position:

Performs tasks associated with the shipping of materials

Major Duties:

• Schedules Company trucks
• Coordinates in-bound carrier schedules
• Communicates truck arrival, order preparation, etc. with Warehouse personnel
• Prepares bill of ladings
• Handles secondary dispatch of drivers
• Communicates schedule and order issues to Sales department
• Responsible for data entry associated with shipments including order closing, dispatch, etc.
• Prepares outbound material loads
• Coordinates with Operations staff to optimize shipping and inter-department efficiencies
• Assists in training staff as needed
• Takes active role in various department and inter-department projects including but not limited to process improvement, etc.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reliable, on time be ready to work daily.
• Must have an eye for detail and be able to multi-task without hesitation.
• Minimum of 2 years in shipping department or related applicable experience.
• Must be proficient with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database, e-mail, and other related software.
• Previous customer service experience and knowledge of Lean and Kaizen principles preferred.
