Summary

In Materials I, the employees perform more general labor work and do many non-skilled tasks. Their main task consists of more manual work such as picking parts. They may utilize forklifts and tow motors to pick and transport parts to designated areas; however, employees should be forklift certified before operating a forklift. The employees may assist in inventory of parts and use a computer to locate parts when necessary. As long as the employee is capable of performing the physical work, he or she is likely able to perform the material handling tasks in Material Handler I. Material Handler I is the entry level for all Material Handling positions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Communicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environment
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks
  • Review inventory paperwork
  • Lift light and/or heavy parts on and off a cart, floor, shelf, etc.
  • Use of a cart to push/pull equipment and parts to and from designated areas
  • Operate a forklift/tow motor to transport parts safely
  • Assist in tracking and recording inventory of various parts
  • Keep areas stocked with the correct parts and supplies
  • Assist co-workers with heavy lifting of parts
  • Understand the differences in parts and tools
  • Sweep and clean work area
  • Work required hours and have excellent attendance record
  • Work overtime as needed
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Marginal Work Functions
  • These functions may be considered essential based on location, position, and other factors.
  • Use of a computer to distribute and locate parts
  • Retrieve parts stored outside in all weather conditions: rain, snow, cold, and heat
  • Assist Material Handlers in other departments as needed
Basic Qualifications
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or operational environment

  • Use both hands for tool operation, carrying of parts, and assisting co-workers with heavy lifting of parts
  • Climb in and out of forklift/ tow motor safely
  • Demonstrate strength and physical stamina to complete the tasks safely
