Job summary

Community Servings is seeking a Shipping/Receiving Clerk to inspect and store food supplies, maintain inventory, and support kitchen operations. The role requires driving a refrigerated box truck between Mansfield and Jamaica Plain and supervising volunteers in shipping and receiving.

Qualified candidates will have a MA driver’s license, forklift certification, and the ability to handle a 14,000+ lb GVW truck safely. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming products by sight, smell, touch, labels, and expiration dates.
• Store received goods properly and promptly.
• Maintain walk-in refrigerator and dry storage, rotate stock and report issues.
• Transport inventory between Mansfield and Jamaica Plain locations in a refrigerated box truck.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of kitchen usage and disposables.
• Adhere to safety and sanitation practices at all times.
• Provide supply support to Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager.
• Supervise and train volunteer staff in shipping and receiving.
• Attend bi-weekly kitchen operations and monthly staff meetings.

Community Servings' mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals and medically tailored groceries to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. We are a dynamic and fast-growing agency at the forefront of the "Food is Medicine" field, providing over 1M medically tailored meals annually to clients and their families experiencing illness and food insecurity in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, our work strongly focuses on supporting the regional local food system, delivering high-quality nutrition education to the community, and hosting an on-site food-service workforce development program. Over the past 36 years, the agency has provided 15M+ free, scratch-made meals.

Summary:

Responsible for shipping and receiving and signing for all food supplies and staples

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Thoroughly inspects the conditions of product received through visual, smell, touch and temperature, ingredient labels and expiration dates.
• Conducts timely and proper storage of all received goods.
• Performs daily maintenance of the walk-in refrigerator and dry food storage area by rotating the stock and ensuring the walk in is free of debris and spills. Notifying the Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager of improperly labeled or wrapped food.
• Drive a refrigerated box truck between our Mansfield and Jamaica Plain locations. This includes loading inventory, properly securing the load, unloading at the destination, and moving the goods to the correct location.
• Maintains an accurate inventory chart of Kitchen staff’s daily usage of food staples and disposables.
• Adheres to all enforced safety and sanitation practices.
• Provides supply support to the Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager for the Kitchen’s daily operation
• Oversees the volunteer staff working in shipping and receiving including training as required.
• Attends and participates in the bi-weekly Kitchen operational meeting and the monthly staff meeting.
