Job summary

Gonnella Baking Co. in Schaumburg is seeking a packaging associate for a fast-paced line responsible for packing products off conveyors into boxes or bags in the correct pattern.

You will operate and monitor packaging equipment including case sealer, box machine, and palletizer, while removing damaged or sub-standard products for management review. The role requires attention to detail, reading orders, and safety awareness.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Able to read sales orders and shipping documents.
  • Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Experience on a fast-paced production line is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pack products as they come off a fast-paced conveyor line.
  • Operate and monitor packaging equipment, case sealer, box machine and palletizer.
  • Read scales and set computers on case sealers for expiration dates and lot numbers.
  • Deliver supplies to back dock and maintain quality measures at all times.
  • Keep area neat and report any damage or irregularities to Management.

Job description

Summary

Responsible for placing correct number of products coming off fast

paced conveyer belts into boxes or bags in the correct pattern.

Operate and monitor packaging equipment, case sealer, box

machine, and palletizer.Remove damaged or sub-standard product

and set aside for Management to check.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Work Schedule:

Attend job regularly and on time with a four or more day schedule including weekends.Shifts are for 10.5 hours or more.A.M. shift start times are from 3:15 A.M. to 6:00 A.M.The P.M. shift start times are from 4:00 P.M. to 6:45 P.M.Overtime/days off work bid in order of seniority.

2. Physical and Mental Requirements to be performed with or without an accommodation:

A.Capable of exerting up to 50 pounds of force infrequently and or up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and or up to 5 pounds of force frequently.To pack objects relating to the packaging process.

B.Mental and visual ability to identify various products, prices, codes, labels and stickers and read sales orders and shipping documents.Must be able to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide.Performs routine tasks following multiple instructions on a fast pace production line.

C.Tasks require stooping reaching, standing, crouching, bending, twisting, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.

D.Capable of understanding multiple instructions, maintaining production and shipping documents, and reading notices and work schedules as posted on Bulletin Boards.

E.Employee subject to working inside protected from weather conditions.Employee subjected to temperatures below 0 degrees for no more than one hour when in holding freezer (Dock workers only).

F.Employee subject to noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard.

G.Employee subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current and moving objects carrying considerable weight and force.

H.Capable of working in environment of low-level nuisance dust, including but not limited to, flour and rye dust.

I.Meet the Attendance requirements.

A.Ability to pack products as they come off a fast-paced conveyor line.

B.Be able to accurately read scale and set computer on case sealer for valid expiration date and case number.

C.Ability to operate pallet jack and box machine.Have the ability to reset and load the palletizer, troubleshoot the palletizer and to repair worn or defective pallets.

D.Deliver various supplies to back dock.

E.Maintain quality measures at all times.By sight, note irregularities in shape, texture and color of product.By feel, note that product is correctly frozen.Approximately every fifteen (15) minutes, pull sample product from line to check to see if weights is in line with specs.Also randomly pull various products for quality control tests.

F.Ensure an adequate supply of boxes.

G.Calibrate and test metal detectors as per required in quality program.

H.Other duties may be assigned as business necessitates.

4. Secondary Functions:

A.Relief for other shippers/packers for breaks, lunches and absences.

B.Keep work area clean at all times.

5. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

A.Preparation and training/work requires the ability to read, write and speak English and to perform simple arithmetic calculations.Must be capable of performing all functions on the training checklist.

B.Work Experience/Prior shipping or packing experience preferred.

C.Analytical Ability/Some analytical ability is required.Analysis is necessary to determine and make adjustments when needed in order to provide a quality product.

D.Independent Judgment and Consequences of Errors/Some independent judgment beyond the general or semi-detailed instructions.Consequence of errors causes major inconvenience, confusion and possible substantial cost in time, money or customer good will.

E.Contact With Others/Limited contact with people outside the company and frequent contact with employees in immediate work area.Important matters are discussed with Management and decisions are made.

F.Supervision of Others/No responsibility for the work of others.

6. Ongoing Requirements And Standards:

A.During periods of non-work time or downtime, work is to be done as assigned by Management.

B.A quality product is the responsibility of each employee.Be alert to handle or report any damage or inferior product to Management.

C.Keep area of assignment work neat and clean.Assist other employees when possible.

D.Notify Management of nay equipment problems.

E.Maintain a high state of safety awareness.Keep hands out of moving machinery.Lift properly.Be alert to movement of material or other people to give right of way as needed.

F.Do not change job procedures with out authorization from Management.
