Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking a Ship Superintendent for Nuclear 2nd shift to manage deckplate construction activities across the Waterfront and facilities. The role supports Reactor Plant Systems for VIRGINIA Class submarines and coordinates safety, efficiency, and quality across projects.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 4+ years EB experience in manufacturing/operations, or 5+ years outside experience in related fields.
• Previous Nuclear Trade and/or Modular Construction experience.
• Must hold Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate tasks from routine to complex across multiple personnel and organizations.
• Interface with trades, Reactor Services, Nuclear Test Engineering and Operations, Quality, Waterfront Engineering, Ships Force, RPCO, and NRRO.
• Administer documents for nuclear work and Ready for Test, such as TIRs, Ripouts, ERs, NCRs, and Work Orders.
• Lead High-Risk Activities for major component evolutions.
• Arrange Major Plant Component arrivals/moves and material shipout.
• Lead process improvement initiatives.

Overview

This position reports to the New Construction Nuclear Project Manager(s) and is the Nuclear Ships Management representative for Nuclear New Construction work. The successful candidate will manage the deckplate construction activities within the Groton Shipyard VACL build-to-test programs from initial component assembly to delivery.

Primary responsibility is for the daily management and coordination of all Nuclear work supporting Reactor Plant Systems of VIRGINIA Class submarine New Construction projects. The Area Superintendent is the leader for logistics, managing resources, and establishing priorities for the safety, efficiency, and quality of New Construction activities across the Nuclear waterfront and facilities. In this role, the Area Superintendent is individually responsible for the satisfactory completion of trade work in support of New Construction milestones and Key Events from initial RPM assembly to Ship Delivery.

Secondary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinating tasks - from routine to complex - involving multiple personnel and organizations.


• Interfacing with all trades, Reactor Services, Nuclear Test Engineering and Operations, Quality, Waterfront Engineering, Ships Force, RPCO, and NRRO

The successful candidate should have strong written and verbal skills and must be able to embody the companys Commitment to Excellence across assigned projects. The individual is expected to support work during off-shift hours and weekends as business needs dictate.

The applicant must be medically able and willing to qualify as a Radiation R Worker to obtain and maintain dosimetry.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent


• 4+ years of EB experience in manufacturing/operations in a field of project management, construction, military, planning, construction engineering field shipyard trade - OR - 5+ years of outside experience in manufacturing/operations in a field of project management, construction, military, planning, construction engineering field or shipyard trade


• Previous Nuclear Trade and/or Modular Construction experience


• Must hold Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years Electric Boat supervisory experience


• Previous Pipefitting, Shipfitting, Machinist, Electrical or Welding experience


• Prior US NAVY NNPP supervisory experience


• Operations Supervisor experience


• Proficient with Team Center, EWP, 7G, 3G, and PCM


• Advance or Production Control planning experience
