Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks an Area Superintendent to manage deckplate construction activities for the VIRGINIA Class submarine New Construction programs in Groton. This role covers assembly through ship delivery, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and quality across Nuclear waterfront and facilities.

The candidate must demonstrate strong written and verbal skills, lead by example, and coordinate with multiple trades to ensure milestone success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 4+ years of EB experience in manufacturing/operations in project management/construction/military/shipyard trade.
• Previous Nuclear Trade and/or Modular Construction experience.
• Must hold Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Daily management and coordination of Nuclear work supporting Reactor Plant Systems for VIRGINIA Class submarine New Construction projects.
• Lead cross-functional teams and align resources to meet milestones and safety standards.
• Coordinate tasks across trades and interfaces involving Reactor Services, Nuclear Test Engineering, Quality, and Waterfront Engineering.
• Administer nuclear work documentation (TIRs, Ripouts, ERs, NCRs, Work Orders) and manage material movements.
• Support off-shift hours and weekends as business needs dictate.

Job description

This position reports to the New Construction Nuclear Project Manager(s) and is the Nuclear Ship’s Management representative for Nuclear New Construction work. The successful candidate will manage the deckplate construction activities within the Groton Shipyard VACL build-to-test programs from initial component assembly to delivery.

Primary responsibility is for the daily management and coordination of all Nuclear work supporting Reactor Plant Systems of VIRGINIA Class submarine New Construction projects. The Area Superintendent is the leader for logistics, managing resources, and establishing priorities for the safety, efficiency, and quality of New Construction activities across the Nuclear waterfront and facilities. In this role, the Area Superintendent is individually responsible for the satisfactory completion of trade work in support of New Construction milestones and Key Events from initial RPM assembly to Ship Delivery.

Secondary Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Coordinating tasks - from routine to complex - involving multiple personnel and organizations.
• Interfacing with all trades, Reactor Services, Nuclear Test Engineering and Operations, Quality, Waterfront Engineering, Ship’s Force, RPCO, and NRRO
• Administration of documents associated with nuclear work and Ready for Test, such as TIRs, Ripouts, ERs, NCRs, and Work Orders
• Leading High-Risk Activities for major component evolutions
• Arranging for Major Plant Component arrivals / moves and material shipout
• Leading process improvement initiatives

The individual is expected to support work during off-shift hours and weekends as business needs dictate.

The applicant must be medically able and willing to qualify as a Radiation “R” Worker to obtain and maintain dosimetry.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• 4+ years of EB experience in manufacturing/operations in a field of project management, construction, military, planning, construction engineering field or shipyard trade - OR - 5+ years of outside experience in manufacturing/operations in a field of project management, construction, military, planning, construction engineering field or shipyard trade
• Previous Nuclear Trade and/or Modular Construction experience
• Must hold Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years Electric Boat supervisory experience
• Previous Pipefitting, Shipfitting, Machinist, Electrical or Welding experience
• Prior US NAVY NNPP supervisory experience
• Operations Supervisor experience
• Proficient with Team Center, EWP, 7G, 3G, and PCM
• Advance or Production Control planning experience
