Job summary

Gulf Stream Marine, Inc. seeks an experienced crane operator to load and unload cargo using friction cranes in a busy waterfront environment. You will work closely with stevedoring teams to move containers and machinery while following safety protocols.

The role requires crane operation experience, knowledge of flag signals, and the ability to read crane charts. TWIC is required; NCCCO/NCCER certification is a plus. The position involves all-weather work and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of marine industry experience operating crane equipment.
  • At least 1 year operating heavy equipment such as 9K, 30K or 52K forklifts.
  • Advanced knowledge of flagging signals used in cargo handling.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision and show initiative.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and work in a drug-free environment.
  • TWIC required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate friction cranes (3900/4000/4100 class) and lattice booms to lift/move cargo and containers.
  • Control crane movements based on written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Daily safety inspections of the crane.
  • Complete daily and weekly inspection and maintenance reports.
  • Position loads and place machinery, equipment, containers, and cargo as directed.
  • Set up crane mats and outriggers before start of operations.
  • Read instrument panels and crane charts; know control panels.
  • Operate crane according to signals from Flagman and supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; work in all weather conditions.
  • NCCCO/NCCER certification preferred, not required.

Job description

Overview

This position is responsible for safely operating a Friction crane to load and unload cargo and containers into and from the vessel in the stevedoring operations department.

Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of (2) two years of marine industry related experience operating crane equipment.
  • Must have (1) one year experience operating heavy equipment such as the 9K, 30K or 52K forklift.
  • Must have advance knowledge understanding flagging signals used in cargo handling.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak Basic English.
  • Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Must adhere to safety protocol and work in a drug-free environment.
  • TWIC required.
Responsibilities
  • Operate friction 3900/4000/4100 class cranes and lattice booms to lift and move materials, machines, containers, or cargo in a waterfront setting.
  • Manipulate and depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of the crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Inspect crane for safety issues on a daily basis.
  • Completing daily and weekly inspection and maintenance reports
  • Lift position and place machinery, equipment, containers and cargo as directed.
  • Properly set-up crane mats and outriggers prior to start of operations.
  • Must know instrument and control panels.
  • Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load line.
  • Read and understand crane charts.
  • Operate crane according to signals of Flagman.
  • Follow directions of supervision carefully.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position requires working in all types of weather.
  • NCCCO NCCER Certification preferred, not required.
