Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Operate Manitowoc cranes and related equipment to lift, move, and position loads such as ship structures and equipment.
  • Supervise assigned crew working with the Crane Operator and ensure teamwork.
  • Conduct and document pre-use inspections as designated by the Equipment Maintenance Program.
  • Complete time cards, pre-jobs, daily inspections, and reports accurately.
  • Maintain cab and crane areas; ensure safety and compliance with PPE rules.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, clients, and management; report faults immediately.

Job description

  • To safely and efficiently load, offload, and stage materials as directed by client/supervisor. Operation of a crane requires a commitment to safety, good comprehension skills, and the ability to constantly monitor a situation. Critical thinking, leadership skills and reasoning skills are a must. In addition to the operation of the crane, one must be able to perform routine maintenance as outlined by company maintenance department and direct subordinates to assigned job tasks.

Supervisory Role
  • To supervise the assigned crew working with the Crane Operator
Essential Job Functions
  • Able to operate Manitowoc 777, Manitowoc 888, Manitowoc 14,000, Liebherr 1280, and Cherry Picker.
  • Display and encourage teamwork among employees and customers

  • Ability to conduct and document machine pre-use inspections as designated by company Equipment Maintenance Program
  • Accurately complete and submit all documents, such as time cards, pre-jobs, daily inspections, reports, etc. on all functions of the equipment being used and report any breakdowns or faults that may occur immediately to supervisor
  • Operate company vehicle when required
  • Operate mobile, overhead, or stationary cranes to lift, move, and position loads, such as structural parts of ships, vessels and equipment related to the oil and gas industry
  • Use certified hoisting attachments provided by company or client
  • Observe load hookup and determine safety of load
  • Ability to manipulate and/or depress crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions
  • Keep all areas of the crane, including the cab area, clear of unwanted and unhygienic material
  • Ability to conduct, document, and submit 40-hr service inspections on equipment as required
  • Ability to administer and effectively communicate pre-job safety meetings and reporting with crew on potential accidents
  • Constantly watching for anything that could make the previously stated duties unsafe
  • Create and submit work orders for billing
  • Operate forklift and other heavy machinery when directed
  • Responsible for the housekeeping in the designated work areas
  • Perform rigging task when needed
  • Complete all tasks assigned by a supervisor not to exceed the physical requirements of the job description
QHSE Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in company WISE program
  • Act as a mentor per company Mentoring and SSE programs
  • Utilize Stop Work Authority when necessary
  • Adhere to and comply with company policies, OSHA, and environmental regulations
  • Abide by, convey, and enforce all safety rules, including the wear of PPE for oneself and others, including third party personnel on site at the facility
  • Operate in the company Management System (Unisea)

Work Environment
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, electrical hazards, vibration noise, fumes, smoke, dust, gases, chemicals, and a variety of other physical conditions
  • Repetitive sequences that require sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, finger manipulation, climbing, feeling, seeing, hearing, and speaking
  • Subject to ultraviolet light, electrical hazards, vibration, noise, and a variety of other physical conditions, such as the proximity to moving mechanical parts, working at heights greater than 6 ft., and working over water
  • May be subject to environmental exposure to heat, cold, smoke, dust, fumes, chemicals, hydrocarbons, and gases. Protective clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hats, safety shoes or boots, and dust masks are all to be worn as required.
  • May be required to work alone and in congested areas
  • May be required to perform work at an alternate location other than the port facility
Physical Requirements
  • This position is classified as medium work - exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for light work.
  • While performing job duties, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit; use hand and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: talk and hear; and taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required for the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
