Job summary

WestRock Paper Mill in West Point, VA is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead daily operations for Paper and Shipping departments, including 3 containerboard machines, recycle fiber, and shipping/logistics. You will drive safety, environmental compliance, and product quality while meeting production goals.

The role requires strong leadership, problem solving, and planning skills, with experience in a unionized setting preferred and rotating 8-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 2+ years relevant experience; or HS diploma with 7+ years related experience.
• Working knowledge of Outlook, Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills to prevent major breakdowns.
• Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
• Ability to select and use PPE per hazards and requirements.
• Leadership and motivational skills.
• Union experience preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Computer familiarity: Microsoft Office, IT Basics, EPAM, PI.
• Analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate safety leadership and promote safety engagement to eliminate incidents.

This position is responsible for the successful frontline leadership of the daily operation of 3 containerboard paper machines, recycle fiber plant, and shipping/logistics to achieve maximum sustained safety excellence, environmental compliance, ensuring quality specifications are followed and meeting or exceeding production goals.

What you need to succeed:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field with 2+ years relevant experience or High School diploma/GED and 7+ years related experience.
• Working knowledge in most of these programs: Outlook Email, Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office to include Word, and Excel with the ability to learn new applications.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to make decisions based on alarm or upset process conditions that may be critical in preventing major breakdowns.
• Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills
• Ability to select and properly use personal protective equipment according to the specific hazard or hazards in accordance with Company and department requirements.

• Initiates and supports safety, environmental, and quality incident investigations.
• Effectively communications production information and issues to appropriate personnel through multiple channels.
• Directs the shift mechanical and electrical shift maintenance resources.
• Supports planning and execution of machine outages in the Department
• Responsible for maintaining housekeeping in all areas.

The salary range for this position is $82,500.00 - $137,500.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
