Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in the United States seeks a Paper Mill Shift Supervisor to oversee the paper machine, recycle, and shipping functions on a rotating shift. You will supervise workers, maintain production records, and lead safety and quality initiatives to improve overall machine efficiency.

Qualifications include a B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper (GED accepted), 3-5 years of related experience, and the ability to work rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

• Supervises workers engaged in producing sellable, quality reels of linerboard across paper machine, recycle, and shipping.
• Maintains time and production records and prepares outlines for safety and crew meetings.
• Interprets and enforces policies, SOPs, and safety regulations; establishes procedures to meet production schedules.
• Identifies and implements safety and efficiency improvements; supports training and development of staff.

Supervises workers engaged in producing sellable, quality reels of linerboard by performing the following duties. This role covers the paper machine, recycle, and shipping. This is a rotating shift.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Promotes the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions and recommends measures to reduce or eliminate accident and health hazards in compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate regulations.
• Studies production schedules and estimates the number of work hours required for completion of job assignments.
• Responsible for initiating work request for needed repairs, and prioritize
• Interprets and enforces company policies, standard operating procedures, and safety regulations.
• Establishes and / or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Makes and implements recommendations to improve safety, quality / customer satisfaction, and Overall Machine Efficiency (OME).
• Analyzes and resolves work problems, and / or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Initiates and / or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve department and mill goals.
• Maintains time and production records.
• Sets up machines and equipment to meet safety, quality, and production objectives.
• Performs activities of workers supervised in order to train / develop employees.
• Prepare an outline and conduct safety and crew meetings monthly.

What you will need to succeed:

• B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper curriculum strongly preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work a rotating shift

The salary range for this position is $82,500.00 - $137,500.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
