Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy mobile gasoline and diesel equipment.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and ability to manage the operations and programs of the unit/team.
• Knowledge of heavy industrial, commercial, and light automotive equipment to supervise Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanics.
• Skill at the journey level as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic exhibiting the mechanical knowledge to maintain, troubleshoot and repair heavy mobile equipment.
• Skill in using tools and interpreting manuals, diagrams, schematics, and parts catalogs.
• Knowledge of electrical theory and electronic controls on heavy equipment to evaluate substitutions and ensure safety.
• Knowledge of heating and air conditioning units in mobile equipment for proper diagnosis.
• Ability to apply safety rules and supervise others in working safely.
• Ability to analyze data and information.
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Skill in using a computer and CMMS/time-keeping systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with supervisors and planners to schedule preventive maintenance and long-term repair projects.
• Ensures sufficient materials and equipment for upcoming projects.
• Establishes deadlines and priorities based on schedules, safety, and emergencies.
• Determines personnel, materials, and equipment needs for work.
• Monitors performance and conducts coaching and performance evaluations.
• Tracks time and attendance and approves timecards.
• Creates and reviews work orders in CMMS for labor and parts postings.
• Prepares shift reports and incident/injury reports.
• Prepares itemized repair estimates and requisitions purchases.
• Leads shift meetings and assigns work orders for repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Mentors and trains junior mechanics in troubleshooting and repairs.
• Inspects work in progress and upon completion for quality and safety.
• Oversees snow operations and emergency response readiness.
