Job summary

Westhab is seeking a Shift Supervisor for our Bronx, NY homeless shelter. The role oversees security operations, trains staff, and ensures safety and compliance across facilities. Must have licensure and CPI certification, with on-site supervision responsibilities and strong problem-solving skills.

The position reports to the Security Manager and requires Covid-19 vaccination. Availability includes shift coverage, with responsibility for safety and incident response within the shelter community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• NYS Security Guard License, Fire Guard License (F80) and CPI certification required.
• Knowledge of video surveillance and fire detection/alarm systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Train new security staff in facility protocols.
• Monitor access control, magnetometer, and X-ray operations.
• Conduct rounds to detect hazards, trespass, and illicit activities.
• Respond to emergencies and provide guidance to staff.
• Complete monthly security reports and perform safety inspections.
• Coordinate fire drills and crisis interventions as needed.
• Maintain daily equipment logs and ensure accurate records.

JOB TITLE: SHIFT SUPERVISOR

FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

DEPARTMENT: HOUSING AND SERVICES – SECURITY

REPORTS TO: SECURITY MANAGER

SALARY: $24.00 P/H

SUMMARY: Perform responsible work involving a variety of specialized assignments and security systems in a family homeless shelter. Shift Supervisor reports to the Security Manager. Covid-19 vaccination required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Train new security employees in all aspects of the facility.
• Monitor access control and ensure effective use of the magnetometer and X-ray machine
• Make rounds throughout the facilityand external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and reporthazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
• Respond to emergencies in person throughout the building, and provide guidance and support to line staff and subordinates.
• Complete monthly security reports
• Conduct daily security and fire safety system inspections
• Fulfill all job responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor in their absence.
• Adjust staff schedules due to sick calls, and unexpected staff shortages
• Maintain safety and security of clients and staff.
• Provide crisis intervention when needed.
• Assist Security Manager in preparing and executing fire drills.
• Oversee AWOL family property pack up
• Monitor logging of client property to ensure accuracy
• Ensure that all managers are kept aware of critical incident on assigned shifts.
• Review log book entries, incident reports, and critical administrative responsibilities on assigned shift, checking for errors and ensuring accuracy
• Attend and conduct various meetings and trainings as needed.
• Check inventory of all assigned equipment daily, and investigate any discrepancies.
• Perform all related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Proof of education required: High school Diploma/ GED. A valid N.Y.S Security Guard License, Fire Guard License (F80), and certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI). Must possess a general knowledge of security systems. The ability to solve problems and make decisions based on factual information is a must. Knowledge of video surveillance and fire detection / alarm notification system . Must be flexible on days and hours of availability. Familiarity with CARES preferred.
