This position is accountable for ensuring that all plant production units are running safely, efficiently, and producing the proper amount of product as indicated by the production plan and meeting quality specifications. The incumbent is also responsible for directly supervising Operators working a rotating shift schedule and providing the leadership needed to maximize unit effectiveness. As required, the individual in this position will take timely corrective action when process or personnel problems arise.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Works closely with the Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Process Engineers, and Logistics Supervisor to establish and meet day-to-day production goals.
- Responsible for the operations of all areas of the Bostik property (utilities, production, waste, etc).
Leadership
- Utilizes effective leadership over direct reports to maximize employee productivity and contribution from each of the process areas. Ensures coverage requirements are met and prioritizes tasks based upon facility needs.
- Independently makes decisions for plant production on the off-shifts to ensure production goals are achieved.
- Operates with an ownership mindset and drives decisions that include all factors (HES, Productivity, Quality & Financial).
- Onboards, trains, and develops personnel to provide a sufficient skill base for a safe, efficient production facility.
- Recognizes the successful efforts of employees to increase productivity, reduce costs, and improve work processes.
- Partners with HR on hiring, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
- Develops and maintains KPIs for the department to show continuous improvement.
- Ensures responsible areas maintain a high level of housekeeping and 5S programs to be "tour ready" at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
- Implements and/or administers all policies and procedures designed for the operations department.
HES
- Assists in writing and reviewing JSA, SOPs, and other Work Instructions.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations including Title V Air Permitting, RCRA, PSM, and OSHA.
- Maintains a high safety standard by conducting safety meetings, participating in Behavior-Based Safety programs, as well as SWOT analysis.
- Acts as an incident commander during emergencies.
Production
- Willing to work any shift and cover other shifts as needed. 3rd shift 10pm-6am (Sunday-Thursday).
- Partners with Maintenance in scheduling and work order execution.
- Writes permits and completes risk assessments for life-critical programs (LOTO, Line Break, Hot Work, etc.).
- Assists chemical operators as needed, including charging and packaging mixers, wearing appropriate PPE, which may include a respirator.
- Safely operates industrial lift trucks (sit-down and stand-up).
- Troubleshoots equipment and implements new methods and materials to reduce failure frequency.
- Uses SAP to confirm production and help manage inventory.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years' chemical plant manufacturing experience preferred.
- Well-versed in product manufacturing and materials.
- Capable of evacuating manufacturing areas promptly during emergencies.
- Ability to wear and properly utilize PPE, including respirator fit testing.
- Ability to identify critical operational issues, develop action plans, and foster a positive work environment.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Maintain Immediate Response Leader training and First Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
- Maintain forklift and aerial lift certifications.
