Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking a Shift Supervisor to support daily operations at a shelter. You will supervise activities, manage schedules, ensure safety, and conduct safety checks such as fire drills and screenings.

Candidates must obtain FDNY F-80 within 90 days and be willing to pursue CPR and NYC Food Handler’s certifications as needed. The role requires flexibility for varied shifts and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of experience in human services, preferably with homeless individuals or those experiencing substance use issues.
• Ability and willingness to obtain the FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness within 90 days of hire.
• Willingness to obtain CPR and NYC Food Handler’s certifications as needed.
• Flexible availability for varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the shelter environment to ensure rules are followed, safety maintained, and positive interactions observed.
• Conduct regular safety and room checks, lead fire drills and evacuations, and monitor kitchen/food prep when staff are unavailable.
• Manage daily activity schedules to ensure client services and events occur as planned.
• Oversee client appointments by reviewing schedules, dispatching vehicles, distributing carfare, and assigning escorts as needed.
• Administer breathalyzer tests or observe urine collection when required by policy; monitor clients returning from outside appointments.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and ensure confidentiality and privacy in compliance with 42 CFR and HIPAA.

Overview

Shift Supervisor

The Shift Supervisor supports daily operations at a shelter by ensuring client services run smoothly, safely, and on time. Working under the Operations Coordinator, they supervise activities, manage schedules, oversee facility safety and cleanliness, and conduct safety checks such as fire drills and substance use screenings. They also help coordinate transportation, track client appointments, and ensure staff follow all health, safety, and privacy rules.

Candidates who do not have a current FDNY-80 (F-80) certificate, must be able to obtain it within 90 days of hire and be open to getting CPR and food handling certifications as needed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the overall shelter environment to ensure rules are followed, the space remains safe and clean, and positive interactions are maintained.
• Conduct regular safety and room checks, lead fire drills and evacuations, and step in to monitor kitchen and food prep if food service staff are unavailable.
• Manage the daily schedule of activities, making sure all client services and events happen as planned, and that participants and staff are where they need to be.

Additional Information

This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $XXX (annualized at 35 hours a week to XXXX) with a full benefits package.
