Job summary

Valmont is seeking a Shift Supervisor in the Global Coating Division in New Jersey to supervise 10–20 production employees, train and mentor, assign stations, and ensure safe, efficient operation of the galvanizing floor.

You will monitor production standards, schedule manpower, and promote continuous improvement, with a focus on quality, safety, and adherence to policies. Two years of supervisory experience required; Bachelor's or Associate Degree preferred; strong Excel skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in supervisory or management position.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous substances and to know basic employee responsibilities for chemical safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
  • Ability to use simple computer entry software.
  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree is a plus for highly qualified candidates.
  • Five years of supervisory or management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor approximately 10–20 production employees within the Galvanizing facility.
  • Direct supervision of Floor Supervisors, box persons, and dealers; ensure policy adherence.
  • Define and assign work stations and duties; maximize manpower and equipment utilization.
  • Monitor production standards and ensure quality QA checks on products.
  • Promote a continuous productivity improvement climate and support safety policies.

How you will contribute

Pay range: $69,900 - $109,200.

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Shift Supervisor position in the Global Coating Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will supervise, train, motivate, and mentor approximately 10-20 production employees within the Galvanizing facility. Responsible for the direct supervision of Floor Supervisors, box persons, and dealers. Follows all department procedures, safety regulations, and shop floor policies and procedures. Responsible for the operation of the production floor during the shift, including assigning stations, duties for all staff and ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, you will implement and assign work schedule to maximize utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment. Defines expected production standards and monitors performance standards of assigned personnel. Observe assigned personnel to ensure the proper operation of assigned equipment. Ensure inspection checks and quality assurance are occurring to produce high quality products. Promote a continuous productivity improvement climate that encourages suggestions for operational improvement. Administer and support company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner. Train new employees about divisional and organizational activities and safety policies and procedures.

What it takes
  • Two years of experience in supervisory or management position with a proven record of strong leadership capabilities (excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills)
  • The ability to recognize hazardous substance and to know basic employee responsibilities for chemical safety
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • The ability to use simple computer entry software

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • Bachelors Degree or Associate Degree
  • Five years of experience in a supervisory or management position
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to support divisional business objectives
  • The ability to calculate figures such as pay changes for employees, proportions and percentages, and product dimensions
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
