Job summary

Valmont Industries in Elkhart, Indiana is seeking a 2nd shift Quality Inspector to inspect materials, read prints and prepare shafts for shipment. You will verify quantities and product quality, operate radials and cranes, and follow PPE and safety procedures to ensure on-time, defect-free delivery. Previous manufacturing experience preferred.

The role requires teamwork and attention to detail in a non-temperature controlled shop environment, with a focus on safety and quality across all shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Sit/stand for long periods and wear PPE in outdoor/non-temperature controlled environment.

2nd Shift Position

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for inspecting materials to ensure that products meet established quality standards and quantities are correct for each order
  • Inspect aluminum shafts and evaluate condition
  • Remove dents, grind and router as needed
  • Prepare finished shafts for protection in shipment as directed by work instruction
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non-temperature controlled environment and outdoors
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned
Important Details about the Role

The employee is responsible for own work. Must be able to work with other employees to complete job. The employee must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer. Ability to stand and operate a machine for extended periods of time. The employee has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, TME (total manufacturing expenses), and customer satisfaction. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to accurately perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to read and work with prints, drawings and work documents
  • Ability to accurately take measurements using close tolerance measuring instruments
  • Acceptable attendance and prior employment record
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in manufacturing position.
  • Familiarity with radial saws, hand tools, overhead cranes and general shop safety
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.
Working Conditions & Physical Efforts

The job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly. Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility. Hazards: This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
