Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years supervising crews in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including extended workdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience supervising unionized employees is a plus.
  • Strong maintenance practices and reliability knowledge.
  • Familiarity with pumps, conveyors, fans, motors.

  • Directly supervise union employees.

  • Interpret specs, blueprints and work orders and assign duties.
  • Drive maintenance crew productivity while ensuring safety and timeliness.
  • Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain inventories of spares for efficient operations.
  • Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with maintenance staff.
  • Follow, improve and develop maintenance programs.
  • Devise cost-saving strategies and contribute to maintenance plans.
  • Develop methods to eliminate maintenance problems and improve product quality.
  • Schedule crews, payroll, reporting, and safety procedures.

Job description

United States Steel is looking for a Shift Manager - Agglomerator Maintenance that will be responsible for applying engineering principles, troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to evaluate and make decisions that resolve operational conditions and improve reliability. In addition, this role will supervise, direct, and coordinate efforts of experienced technicians, craftsmen, and project planners to repair and maintain mechanical and/or electrical equipment to maximize operating efficiencies and improve reliability. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively engage teams and promote an environment of integrity, initiative, and collaboration through two-way communication and encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.

Responsibilities
  • Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment, including proper housekeeping
  • Role model good behaviors in safety, environmental compliance, quality, and productivity
  • Directly supervise union employees
  • Work closely with vendors, contactors, and Shop employee groups to execute tasks
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders to workers and assign duties accordingly
  • Drive productivity of maintenance crews to complete tasks safely, efficiently, and on time
  • Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Maintain proper inventories of required spares in order to provide efficient operations
  • Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with a team of mechanical/electrical maintenance staff
  • Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules to follow, improve, and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs
  • Devise and implement cost saving strategies
  • Provide input into the development of maintenance plans
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures designed to eliminate maintenance problems and improve product quality
  • Perform administrative activities such as scheduling crews, payroll, completing reports, developing safety procedures, work order backlog review, and complying other reporting as necessary
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience supervising crews in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Ability to work rotating shifts which will include extended workdays, weekends, and holidays
  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing
Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Electrical Maintenance or similar degree program or equivalent years of demonstrated knowledge in a large industrial/maintenance environment.
  • Experience supervising unionized employees or similar military leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance practices and reliability principles
  • Knowledge of plant processing equipment such as pumps, conveyors, fans, motors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to be assertive and influential
  • Desire to drive continuous improvement

The base salary of $76,208 to $114,313 is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
