Job description

Shift Leaders serve an essential role at Hatchet Hardware. A Shift Leader provides managerial support when the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager is not on-site. Shift Leaders at Hatchet Hardware have strong hard skills and often share some of the same responsibilities as other employees on their team, plus additional responsibilities like opening or closing the store, making changes to the schedule, helping employees on the shift troubleshoot problems, delegating tasks, and documenting issues to report back to upper management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (assist in all the following):

SALES AND OPERATIONS
● Help delegate daily workload among Associates to maintain outstanding store conditions and meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
● Review all store evaluations with the store management team and staff to identify opportunity areas and urgently correct all issues.
●Organizing shift schedules for team members and monitoring attendance, tardiness, time off, and handling last-minute absences.
●Assigning duties to specific employees based on role and skills and providing direction and feedback to workers during shifts.
●Helps supervise and train employees and assists with tasks as necessary.
●Handling customer issues and managing conflicts between workers.
●Balancing cash drawers and preparing cash deposits.
●Foster and maintain a positive work environment.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
● Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority. This must be accomplished daily through observing, monitoring, and coaching Associates' performance and interactions on the sales floor.
● Drive customer satisfaction by ensuring that all customers are acknowledged, customer needs are met, and concerns are resolved quickly.
● Document at least one (1) Observation per associate monthly and provide coaching to ensure customer service consistency.

INVENTORY
● Assist in maintaining accurate inventory at all stages through on-hand integrity, daily receiving and transfers, store communication, product mix and flow, and adhering to best practices, metrics, and the deadlines of Hatchet Hardware.
● Utilize available inventory reports to maintain appropriate stock levels and maximize inventory accuracy.

SAFETY, COMPLIANCE, AND STORE ENVIRONMENT
● Help enforce safety policies and procedures and serve as a safety role model.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
● Ability to provide motivation and leadership to associates storewide fairly and impartially.
● Must have earned all ACE badges such as Electrical Expert, Paint Prodigy, Hardware Hero, Tool Champ, Plumbing Pro, Outdoor Equipment Powerhouse, BBQ Master, and Lawn & Garden Enthusiast.
● Have the ability to follow, create and explain planograms.
● Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
● High analytical skills and the ability to delegate and be self-directed.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
● Develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships.
● Dress according to company policy.
● A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
● Possess a valid in-state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
● High School Diploma required and at least 1 year of leadership experience in retail or customer service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The minimum physical requirements for this position include the following:
● Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties.
● Move and handle merchandise and fixtures (up to 50 pounds) throughout the store, which entails lifting and performing all functions.

The work environment characteristics described here represent those a Shift Leader encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Shift Leader occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. In addition, the Shift Leader may work near outside weather conditions.
