Job description

Casella Construction is seeking a dedicated and motivated Diesel Mechanic for our off-hours shift from 4:00 PM to 1:30 AM at our Pittsford, VT shop. This role offers a 10% shift differential pay. The Shift Leader Diesel Mechanic is responsible for routine and major repairs on our diverse fleet, including Mack triaxle dump trucks, Kenworth T880 Diesel and T800 LNG tractors, as well as trailers such as live floor, dump, and lowboy trailers.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Participate in daily shift handovers with the Shop Foreman to understand priorities.
  2. Support the team of mechanics in maintenance and repairs, ensuring clear communication with operations and subsequent shifts.
  3. Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on fleet vehicles and trailers.
  4. Complete all repair documentation using fleet maintenance software.
Qualifications
  1. Minimum of 4 years experience in diesel engine repair preferred.
  2. High School Diploma or GED required.
  3. Ability to handle major repairs and perform preventive maintenance on tractors and trailers.
  4. Class A or B CDL desirable.
  5. Own tools and ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  6. Ability to work in confined spaces and in various physical positions.
Skills and Abilities
  1. Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments.
  2. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  3. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  4. Self-motivated with a bias for action and urgency.
