Job summary

Steel Technologies in Tennessee is seeking a Shift Lead to oversee production floor activities ensuring safe, efficient operation and quality products. You will report to the Plant Manager and guide the work of production employees.

You will monitor production levels, enforce safety, coach staff, handle timecards, coordinate equipment operation, and support maintenance. The role requires 1 year supervisory experience and 3-5 years manufacturing background in steel/metals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the steel/metals industry.
  • Knowledge of Steel Technologies raw materials, production processes and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate all Steel Technologies machines.
  • Ability to use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with Forklift and Crane training/certification.

Job description

As a Shift Lead your main responsibility will be to oversee production floor activities to achieve safe, efficient operation of quality product. Working directly under the Plant Manager, you will direct and assist in the work activities of production employees. You should be comfortable communicating with employees at all levels, following production documentation requirements and ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed. How you’ll contribute to our company:
  • Monitor and maintain production levels
  • Make quality control decisions
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed; perform accident investigations
  • Coach and develop employees through on-the-spot feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions
  • Communicate and enforce company rules and policies
  • Approve weekly timecards and requests for time off
  • Conduct employee training of equipment operations and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers
  • Backup plant personnel to operate machines, forklift, crane, etc.
  • Provide efficient changeover to next shift lead
  • Ensure that maintenance of plant equipment, both troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, is completed through proper communication with maintenance
