Job summary

Steel Technologies is seeking a Shift Lead to oversee production floor activities, ensuring safe and efficient operation of quality steel products. You will work under the Plant Manager, directing and assisting production employees while upholding safety policies and production documentation requirements.

You will monitor production levels, make quality decisions, and coach staff through feedback and reviews. Strong communication and ability to train equipment operators are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the steel/metals industry.
  • Knowledge of Steel Technologies raw materials, production processes and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain production levels.
  • Make quality control decisions.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed; perform accident investigations.
  • Coach and develop employees through on-the-spot feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate and enforce company rules and policies.
  • Approve weekly timecards and requests for time off.
  • Conduct training of equipment operations and safety procedures.
  • Back up plant personnel to operate machines, forklift, crane, etc.
  • Provide efficient changeover to next shift lead.
  • Coordinate maintenance with maintenance team for troubleshooting and preventive work.

As a Shift Lead your main responsibility will be to oversee production floor activities to achieve safe, efficient operation of quality product. Working directly under the Plant Manager, you will direct and assist in the work activities of production employees. You should be comfortable communicating with employees at all levels, following production documentation requirements and ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed. How you’ll contribute to our company:
  • Monitor and maintain production levels
  • Make quality control decisions
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed; perform accident investigations
  • Coach and develop employees through on-the-spot feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective actions
  • Communicate and enforce company rules and policies
  • Approve weekly timecards and requests for time off
  • Conduct employee training of equipment operations and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers
  • Backup plant personnel to operate machines, forklift, crane, etc.
  • Provide efficient changeover to next shift lead
  • Ensure that maintenance of plant equipment, both troubleshooting and preventive maintenance, is completed through proper communication with maintenance

Here’s what is needed to be successful:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate all Steel Technologies machines
  • Ability to use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all Forklift and Crane training/certification
