Shift Lead Responsibilities

The Shift Lead must use good judgment in prioritizing duties, balancing leadership and paraprofessional work. On average, leadership duties make up about 20% of the day while 80% are paraprofessional.

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Perform duties of a CSC and/or veterinary assistant/technician. This includes:
  • Actively recruit new clients by promoting hospital services and manage routing of clients and pets to ensure superior client care and maximum productivity of the veterinary medical team.
  • Maximize the number of pets seen by the team through a productive and efficiently run hospital to support wellness plan clients.
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, encouraging visits, welcoming clients and pets, educating them about their pet’s health, performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed by state practice acts.
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventative care, pet health needs and hospital services.
  • Assist incoming clients by completing required documentation, entering pet information and history into the system, and ensuring prompt service.
  • Assist outgoing clients by providing instructions, information, invoices, dispensing prescription items, selling retail products and scheduling future appointments.
  • Manage finances by maintaining accurate balances and following proper opening and closing procedures.
  • Serve as extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and technician to ensure high quality care and maximize productivity, communicating with associates to maintain patient flow.
  • Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain complete medical charts.
  • Ensure safety of pets, clients and associates by using safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and keeping treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean, sterile and organized.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is \$17.57 - \$22.45 hourly, based on candidate experience, skill level, education and applicable location or minimum wage laws.
