Job summary

Mars Petcare in Columbus, OH is seeking a Shift Controls Technician to maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot electrical/motor control systems and PLC logic to maximize uptime.

This on-site role offers rotating shifts, a $5,000 sign-on bonus, a $1.50/hour shift premium, and a comprehensive benefits package starting day one. Candidates should have 3+ years in electrical/automation and strong PLC/HMI knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years' experience in electrical systems, controls and/or automation.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and motor control systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting on electrical and control equipment including PLCs and HMIs.
• Support installation and setup of new control systems and automation equipment.
• Identify and resolve faults and drive continuous improvement
• Maintain inventory of tools and parts for control systems
• Follow safety procedures and protocols when servicing equipment

• Pay Range: Based on experience: $44- $59/hour
• Shift Premium: $1.50/hour

• This site manufactures petfood: Pedigree, Cesar, Nutro, Iams, Whiskas and Sheba.

Shift Schedule:

Rotating Shift (must be available for all)

• 1st Shift
  • Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
  • Monday-Friday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Weekend Off
• 2nd Shift
  • Monday-Friday: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
  • Weekend Off
• 3rd Shift
  • Monday-Friday: 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM

Description of Role:

The Controls Technician is primarily office-based, with occasional visits to the production floor and responsible for maintaining, diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical/motor controls and PLC Logic to minimize downtime and ensure optimal system performance.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
• 3+ years' experience in electrical systems, controls and/or automation.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and motor control systems
• Able to accurately read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

Physical Requirements:

• Occasionally lift/carry (10-50 lbs) and push/pull (50-300 lbs)
• Occasional bending, stooping, twisting, handling, and gripping.
• If requested, able to work at elevated heights, climb stairs, lean over equipment, and operate in confined spaces.
• Capable of working in hot, cold and wet conditions
• Proficient in understanding, communicating, reading, and writing in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's degree, Bachelors degree or relevant certifications in a technical field
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
• Expert in electrical and controls systems

What will be my Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance, basic repairs, troubleshooting, inspections, calibration, modifications and upgrades on electrical and controls equipment including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and motor control systems
• Support the installation and setup of new control systems and automation equipment
• Identify and resolve minor faults in control systems and recommend continuous improvements
• Maintaining inventory of tools, parts, and supplies needed for control system maintenance
• Follow all safety procedures and protocols when servicing control systems and electrical equipment
• Any ad hoc requests
