SHERIFF'S SHOP PLANNER – ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.


OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Sheriff’s Shop Planner positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.


DEADLINE TO APPLY

THE OPPORTUNITY

Research and Development has an excellent opportunity for a Shop Planner who will be responsible for the organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating of maintenance work with a focus on Regulatory Compliance using Facility Management (FM) or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This position is also responsible to engage in procurement processes, scheduling contracted vendors, and maintaining accurate records of labor and materials expended including the planning, scheduling, and dispatching of work orders. Additionally, the Shop Planner supervises all shop activities in the absence of the designated supervisor.


Responsibilities and duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Plan/schedule all maintenance and repair of work for the assigned facility.

  • Maintains, repairs and corrective maintenance.

  • Walk repair job in order to plan for the repair work that is being requested.

  • Create job plan, take photographs, and creating list of materials and tools needed to complete job.

  • Maximize the efficiency and reduces lead times for work being requested.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience working with operations and/or maintenance in coordinating work activities and collaborating with and managing contractors; candidate will be motivated, assertive, problem-solver, self-starting with responsible and varied trade shop experience. Hands on experience using a Facilities Management (FM) or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and completion of maintenance scheduling course or qualified curriculum is preferred.


The successful candidate will possess a strong background with Federal, State, and local governing agencies related to Regulatory Compliance. Underground Storage Fuel Tanks (UST), Fire Systems, Elevator/Escalator inspections, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Planning Air Quality and Waste & Water regulations. In addition to the above requirements, the successful candidate will possess knowledge, and on the job experience as outlined in this job posting. In addition, the ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in the following core competencies:


TRADE EXPERIENCE


  • Experience with desktop computing and use of Microsoft Office suite products.

  • General characteristics and trade practices used in electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, elevator and escalator equipment, carpentry, locksmithand metal trades work.

  • Characteristics of building infrastructure and trade practices used in their maintenance.

  • Cal-OSHA building safety rules and regulations.

  • Current Fire and Life Safety rules and regulations.

  • Underground and aboveground storage tank regulations.

  • Knowledge of Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Planning.

  • Knowledge of Air Quality Management District regulations.

  • Experience with Federal, State and Local government inspection process and permitting. (Elevator, Fire Systems, UST/AST, Generators).

  • Current building equipment and materials by name, manufacture and source/supplier.

  • Current maintenance and construction methods, tools and material used in the building trades.

  • General knowledge and understanding of the acquisition process and coordination of established contract services.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS


  • Read and interpret building specifications and blueprints

  • Develop and communicate goals in support of the business by maintaining and strengthening partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with representatives of other divisions, agencies or contractors and general public.

  • Give informative presentations for meeting.

  • Communicate effectively with shop personnel, other departmental representatives, materials manufacturers and vendors.

  • Collaborate and communicate well with procurement personnel and other departments.

Education and Experience

Considerable experience and training that would have developed the knowledge and abilities listed as minimum qualifications.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
