Job summary

The City of Lewisville is seeking a part-time veterinary technician to support medical care at the animal shelter. Under supervision, you will assist with spay/neuter surgeries, monitor animals, administer medications, and perform daily health checks.

You will maintain surgical room, manage records, handle animals safely, and assist with euthanasia as needed. Candidates should have AVMA-accredited certification or RVT status and at least one year of shelter or surgical experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program certification or RVT required.
• Minimum 1 year as veterinary technician or assistant; shelter experience preferred.
• Experience in surgical assistance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist contract veterinarians with spay/neuter surgeries and anesthesia.
• Administer prescribed medications; calculate dosages.
• Perform daily health checks and medicate as needed.
• Maintain surgical room cleanliness and sterilize instruments.
• Document health information and medications for each animal.
• Keep accurate drug logs and medical records.
• Assist or perform euthanasia as required.
• Provide excellent customer service to shelter visitors.
