Job summary

The Cleveland Animal Protective League seeks a dedicated Shelter Veterinarian (Community Outreach) to oversee surgical services across our APL Clinic, Community Clinic, and Animal Welfare Clinic. The role includes daily supervision of veterinary staff, maintaining medical records, and guiding clinical protocols to ensure high standards of animal care and safety.

Qualifications

• DVM degree and Ohio license to practice veterinary medicine.
• Ability to perform 35 sterilization surgeries per 6-hour shift.
• Fear Free certification or must become certified within six months of hire.
• High-volume spay/neuter experience.
• Excellent communication and client service skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide surgical services and daily care to animals at the APL Clinic and Community Clinic.
• Supervise veterinary technicians, students, and assistants before, during, and after surgery.
• Maintain medical records and update treatment protocols as needed.
• Coordinate with Medical Director on staffing and clinical operations.
• Educate clients, volunteers, and staff on animal care and post-op follow-up.
• Ensure compliance with safety and disease-control protocols.
• Assist with euthanasia training and participate in shelter medicine research as appropriate.
